I just got mine, and had the same situation with a twist:
1)Dead palm pro/III upgrade card.
2)Info on Mac with serial ports running old version of Palm desktop.
3)Serial cradle backordered (this is the twist)
4)USB ports available on iMac in the next office.
The problem is that the old version of the Palm software did not have the drivers (?) to deal with the USB connection - I don't know if it would have Hotsynched OK if I had the serial cradle, since mine is still in HS hyperspace.
Here's what I did after several false starts: Install everything from the CD on the imac, creating a Palm folder there. Connect to older mac from the imac via appleshare. From inside Palm Desktop, open old user info file on the older mac - now I can see all my old appointments, contacts etc. Version 2.1 seems to open the old file happily.
Here's the key...Save a copy of the user info file on top of the user info file in the Palm folder on the imac - this is what the hotsynch is looking for when it connects to the Visor.
After this, I hotsynched everything into the Visor. I imagine that this will work on a single Mac as well as long as you back up the User folder from your old Palm folder before you install the new software...this is something that they already tell you to do in the instructions, but I'm sure many of us old Palm/Mac users will be forging ahead without reading the instructions to carefully
Now my only problem is that my calendar is on the imac, which is not in my office, and I can't open the user file on the imac through Appleshare because the file is busy
Anyone know how to set it up so that I can keep my calendar in my office and hotsynch from somewhere else on the network? I thought I had seen that this was possible, but I don't know if this is a Mac vs Windows problem.
