How to get Palm OS 3.1 to 3.1.H3 again..HELP!

After suffering a FATAL EXECEPTION error, I had to HARD reset my Visor Deluxe. I have never had a problem with it until today. I thought it was a program that I downloaded (UnDupe 1.7), but I'm not sure, since it(the FATAL errror screen) still was there after I deleted UnDupe. It appears after a soft reset..and I'm hung....can't do anything else.

My INFO says Palm OS 3.1.....I remember the HSUpdater fixed that...I downloaded it, ran it, but still no luck.

How the heck do I get back to 3.1H3.....Do I have to do the "return to ground zero" routine...that is, remove batteries for a few hours..and then power back up????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stan

Go by the info in the app-->info screen not in the about screen. If it says 3.1H3(M) there then you're okay if not then you must download the updater and install IIRC you don't need to start from ground zero after putting in an OS patch.

Unhappy

Thanks, Techie.....but I already tried that.

I am aware of using the Application info....that's what I was referring to -- to view the proper version of OS.

HSUpdater runs as advertised....doesn't find a memory problem and proceeds to install the proper OS update.......but it doesn't change 3.1 to 3.1.H3 as I have always seen it..........

My fear is that many of the apps that I run (no hacks), were all working just fine with the 3.1.H3...NEVER HAD A FATAL ERROR BEFORE....and now, by having OS 3.1......this might be why I'm seeing it.....just last night, I was in AvantGo..checking preferences and WHAM..up comes the FATAL ERROR.......

Pretty frustrating.......

I may try something today......Hard reset....come back up with "plain vanilla" Deluxe apps....then beam over from another VISOR the HSUpdater program and run it............maybe then I can HOT SYNC after that and restore all my programs and data....but AFTER the OS patch has been applied.......

I'll respond back after I've tried it...

Later,
Stan

Fatal crash after Avantgo Prefs

Funny, this is what happened yesterday to me too. I checked Avantgo Prefs and when I was finished, my screen went blank and my Visor would not react to anything except a hard reset. Fortunately I had a recent backup on my memplug, which restored almost everything as it was, including OS 3.1.H3, so I can't help you there. I don't know whether the same type of crash was coincindence or not. I do run lots of hacks and I do have crashes, but a soft reset brings me back most of the time. I only once had to hard reset my Visor before.

Lightbulb Make sure you have HS Updater v1.0

Make sure you're downloading the right updater for Visor/Visor Deluxe. HS Updater V1.0.0 not 1.1. It can be dowloaded at:

http://www.handspring.com/support/d.../HS_Updater.zip

When you launch the .prc on your Visor, you'll either be asked for a serial or just notified that it is installing the update. Either way, you will be asked to reset your Visor. After it is reset, check info in the launch screen and you should see either:
Palm OSSoftware v.3.1.H3
-or-
Palm OSSoftware v.3.1.H3M

Good Luck.

Guido

This has been downloaded 160 time(s).

Talking Fixed it !!

Well, my plan worked!!

By starting from scratch from a hard reset..the Visor Deluxe is just like it was out of the box. Instead of re-synching, which would restore the entire contents in my desktop \BACKUP directory.....I beamed the HSUpdater (ver. 1.0.0 Guido) over to it from my son's VISOR, at that restored the unit to 3.1.H3

Then I went to my \BACKUP directory and removed the last two programs that I installed...one or both of which HAD to be the culprits.

They were the latest TealDoc Version 4.5...and UnDupe Version 1.7

Everything worked just fine....FATAL EXCEPTION error gone...even after soft reset's........then I installed TealDoc 4.5 and WHAM!! The FATAL EXCEPTION error was back........SO this MUST be the culprit.

I'm going to go back and install the version that I had previous to that one......Anybody else had problems with TealDoc Ver. 4.5??????

I use absolutely NO hacks........

Thanks for the posts.....

Stan
