Cancelled my wiresless service

I finally cancelled my YadaYada subscription today after being on that service for 1 year. I've enjoyed it as it was great to get e-mail and surf the web on the go. After completing the 1 year service contract, my credit card was charged $39.95 on Nov. 1st. That will be the last charge from YadaYada for me.

I recently got the Visorphone (Voicestream), and it works just as well. I'm still able to check e-mail/web, but I'm using my monthly minutes which is ok since I don't use the phone that much. I'm actually able to save money by this 2 in one device. I can scrap a cell phone and the YY service and save almost $500/year.

For this reason, I think the integrated units like the Treo may be a big hit. Although the price tag is high, it is convenient and may save $$$ in the long run. I'm going to wait for the "always on" service like the Blackberry for the Handspring devices.

Too bad the Treo can't use modules...how does one back it up? I've found the Backup Module to be a life saver!

Mike

That's what BackupBuddy is for! (how do you think users without Springboard slots backup?)

Exclamation Still not enough

I use BackupBuddy too, but it is useless on the road unless you also carry a notebook and cable/cradle. I am thinking of if I can make some alternative now.

Perhaps some kind of memory device that will work from the bottom connectors of the Visor?

It seems something like that would have been made already...I guess it's not possible.

Well, if you make it, you'll become rich!

Can't this be done with the @ctivelink module? They don't have internet, but you can forward your email to that email address.

Wouldn't you be able to do a remote hotsync via the on-board modem of the treo? If you could do that modem sync to your primary PC with Backup Buddy installed on it, woulldn't it restore that way?

I've never had to modem sync before, but I thought that was a feature of Palm desktop.

Remote Hotsync

Yes you can remote hotsync using VP module for exmaple if you have DUN on your server. The 1st first thing you need to do is to open a port on my firewall which is risky at all. Beside if you are out at unknown somewhere for the signal, and then 9.6Kbps data rate. That would be hell of backup. I hope that I'm more adventurous that this. A backup box right at my side would be more safe IMHO.

What I do is this..................!!!

I flashed my modem a WHILE ago with YadaYada's software and FileMover Now I keep A copy of some FTP software on it and I have a OPNIPOTEN! Backup with infinite amount of data

If you guys want some info on setting this up Precisely well.

What you first need to have-

-copy of erase.prc
-copy of YadaYada's software
-Minstrel S
-Copy of Serv-U or an FTP server
-Copy of DataDive or a PRC web based FTP client.

NOTE: to install the software and flash hold the down button on your visor.

The rest is easy to figure out.

That's what the GPRS upgrade for the Treo will bring you, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

I would hope that when Treo is released (UK journalists got an email offering pre-order today) they'll have already added the GPRS software, since most European networks are rolling the service out at the moment.

Nigel.
