I just got a replacement Visor since the buttons on my old one were malfunctioning. I backed up the contents of my nearly full (7.5 MB) Visor using the All button in the BAckup Bitster program, cleaned out the User\Backup folder for good measure and hot synched.
After the long wait, I put the new Visor in and used "System-Desktop overwrites Visor" and loaded all my data onto the new unit. Only thing is, after resetting, the Visor would give me a Fatal Exception and lock up every time it came back on (unless I used the warm boot -- up arrow).
So I went through the whole back-up process again, this time uninstalling all the hacks, Teal Lock, etc. (Shield) thinking that was the problem. Nope. Still the Fatal Exception loop...again and again.
I eliminated all the files that I thought might cause this, but no dice. It seems all the solutions to this problem in this BB are hard resets, multiple hard resets, or ultra-hard take-out-the-battery resets.
Finally, on a hunch, I used the PrefEd freeware (thank you, MAN!) and found that the Unsaved Preferences "sync HotSync" and "psys PalmOS" were present two or more times!! I killed the clones, leaving one copy of each. My Visor asked me to redo the digitizer routine and since then, no more Fatal Exception Loop!
I recommend this utility, along with DBScan. Using them, you can recuperate little chunks of memory left behind by sloppy programs that leave junk in your preference file (either as shareware protection or b/c of poor programming). Don't forget to clean up your ShortCuts file after all those soft resets...
