Help, Visor does not soft reset anymore

My Visor went dead completely the other day, which seemed to be caused by a sudden drop of battery voltage, while it was turned off. At first I could not revive it with new batteries either, but then it suddenly turned on, but it did a hard reset by itself. Using PiBackup I got most of my stuff back as before, but
hotsynching was not working because the desktop complained that the username was already used by another unit. I solved that by changing usernames (twice) on the desktop and hotsynching works again. I reinstalled the stowaway keyboard driver and it asked to reset after installation (which is normal) but it crashed. Trying to do a soft reset the Visor crashes everytime. The only way I can get to use my Visor is doing a warm reset (soft + up button), but then my stowaway keyboard and some other applications (quickbits, splashphoto, etc) don't function at all or not completely. The strange thing is that except for the unexplained battery drain my Visor worked fine before with that same configuration. When I do a soft reset I get a stuck PalmOs screen or the Fatal Error screen with the Data Mgr.c Line 5304 DmWrite check failed message and a reset button which does not work. When I tunred off all hacks I did get a soft reset to get to the screen where it shows the date and so on, but then it started flashing that screen continually. I did also turn off PvsMgr. Any suggestions or should I just do another hard reset? The only problem I see is that I get the hotsync problem back, which was a pain to get working.

Try your warm reset, then go into hackmaster and disable everything. If you're using a launcher, disable that. back everything up and try a soft reset again. It shouldn't crash. Then you can try turning stuff on one by one and doing the soft reset until you find the guilty party.

If you're using a Deluxe and have the Handspring Updater installed (and it gets restored from your backup), it, too, will force the Visor to reset. I've found it's best not to restore the Updater from backup, but rather re-install it with a HotSync.

I tried what you said and it still did not work. It did give me the idea on what more to try. I had left my memplug in the springboardslot during all of my tries. I removed it. Tried a soft reset and it worked. Plugged in the memplug and enabled everything as before and now I am back to normal. Still puzzled why it did drain the batteries when shut off.
Thanks for the help.
