Thanks

Thanks for the layout.

Its unbelievable that the Edge is almost 1/2 the size of the Prism. Hopefully they come out with one that has prism features in the edge's shell.

The new .433 size is great if you won't be using the SB technogies. I would rather carry around a single bigger device (VDX) than carry around an Edge and a springboard expansion device.

This is very subjective. The Edge will not be for folks that have modules in all the time or use their modules extensively. It is for folks that use the module slot sparingly or not at all.

If they had included more than 8mb then I'd say this would be perfect, since memory modules are really the only modules you need to be in all the time, even 12mb would probably had been enough. I always leave my ThinModem+, becaue of memory & not the module, but other Springboards like modems, GPS, & MP3 aren't required to be constantly connected. I imagine people who buy this won't be going for a VisorPhone either, imagine how top heavy that would be.

I'll get an Edge when its sporting OS 5.0, color screen, and 16mb of memory (of course by then maybe we'll need even more!)

The main springboard modules I use are the Innopak 2/V and my backup modules. I'd be much more interested in the Edge if it had more than 8 megs of memory and a vibrating alarm. Given how popular vibrating alarms are on pagers and cellphones I think it makes sense to build it into a PalmOS device. One more reason to choose Palm over wince.

Exclamation Platinum weight with batteries

My Platinum with batteries (no springboard installed) is 6.0 oz.

This is a fairer comparison to the Edge since it includes batteries yet is still only 4.8 oz.

...and lightest of all...the m500

to add to your comparison list, the monochrome Palm m500, which will weigh in at "less than 3.25" oz. Now, THAT'S lightweight.
