More memory is REALLY needed, but this is the wrong implimentation

Probably the thing that I would like MOST for my Prism, would be more "internal" memory. However the probability of needing replacement of the Visor from loss or breakage is to high to justify a 3rd party solution here. The ultimate for me would be CF internal memory upgrade leaving the springport open for I/O devices as intended. If this upgrade offering was coming from Handspring rather that 3rd party, I would be on it today. I can see myself in the bind or getting the upgrade, then having paint issues or something. When handspring swaps, they swap the WHOLE unit, not parts.

But they send you the good one first, then you're on the honor system to send back the defective one. If you don't they charge your credit card the cost of a new one. So for the time you have both units you can switch parts from one to the other -- just so you don't break 'em both . I tried that with the replacement prism because I like the old paint job (even wearing off) better because of the smoothness. I wasn't able to switch cases because prism parts are soldered to the case and it just so happens that I draw the line of screwing around at soldering. I called HS and asked if they could just repair mine and send it back to me, but they have no way of doing that. It's too bad. I think the replacement paint job looks and feels cheaper (even though the old one was wearing off). I wish HS offered a bit of customization with repairs, e.g. free replacement under warranty, but $x to keep your current configuration and have HS repair the faulty HS equipment -- third party equipment to be repaired by original company. That sort of thing. I suppose that just leads to complications, but it would be nice.

Well, okay, but even if the tech's conversion is only warranted for 30 days, what does he charge to repair other items? I dunno, even after 30 days with a brand new Prism, if you flat drop or abuse the unit, even Handspring won't replace it. (Will they?) But, to be real, heck, let's say it's 8 months and you drop, kick, break through negligence, etc. I mean, Handspring isn't going to replace THAT free of charge, are they? So, we're getting to a software issue. So, you have your Prism converted, and it suffers a software problem, or software/button problem, what would (what's his name? The conversion guy?) he charge for the repair? Does he repair units after the 30-day period? Is it worth asking?
(Read his reviewers, quite a few said their units were returned with buttons fixed, etc., without the owners even asking!) Whaddya think?

I think you have to be careful not to take a volkswagen and build it into a race car, when you finlally get done, you wish you would have bought a race car instead. The Prism in my opinion is a excellent piece of equipment, and I would LOVE more memory, but you know, when you do all of that the new model comes out that has that and more. My strategy is, I buy the best that technology has to offer, and as you transition to new products, sell your's on eBay before the bottom falls out and upgrade. Even though I would like memory, I will wait until the brink of the new product release and sell as fast as I can. Shoot, I'm already 4 months into this Prism. Just my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.....unless I change my opinion. : )

So is there any sticker or anything that can make Handspring knows if my prism case was opened?

What if there's no race car available and all you can do is enhance your volkswagen?

It would be great to have 16MB (or more). I am so tired of trying to figure out what files I should have internally on the Prism and what files I should put on the Flash Module.

still waiting for an email from fort lee , nj
or a phone number if anyone has it........

Heehee. Just what I was thinkin. Stuff a V6 into a hatchback. I've never regretted it, except in parts $ - the nature of german cars.

Cool

My prism is in his hands as we speak. Once I placed my order communication was established and questions were answered. This was before my money or unit was received. I am sure this guy is blasted with tons of emails asking the same questions over and over. His focus should be on the people who are serious. As for quality of work a feedback page is provided along with emails. Remember guys its about who has the latest and greatest toy. If you are afraid of voiding your warranty go back to a DayRunner. There will always be someone out there who can and will repair your units - yes at a price.

Wink

Bimmerbusa - He started working on my upgrade the day he received it ( Feb 16). I anticipate it back to me by Monday the 26th ( I used my Business CK). PayPAl is nice but you can only use 1 credit card and this is a business expense. It seems that most problems that occur are minor and anything important is added to the FAQ page. I will keep you posted. Rico

No wonder Rico's so gung-ho about this -- if it breaks, he can always write off the cost of a new Prism as a 'business expense'!

Exclamation

You mean it works in parallel? I don't see how that would work - can you provide a link on it? I would think the addresses for bits would be all screwed up. -?!?-

Tony Rudenko

I have used Tony's service twice (PalmV and m100). Turnaround was under a week and both items worked flawlessly. The V was done about two years ago and it's still going strong.

He has a great rep around the web and is very professional. I actually met him on the first exchange. He's an engineer by trade so he knows what he's doing.

I may go to 16 Mb on my Platinum,if I do I will definitely use him again.

Once you actually request a repair order, he will be in contact, like a previous post said, he must be inundated with emails.

good luck!

Hey bluloo,
Is the Platinum upgrade available yet? Anyone know why the same chip used in the Prism upgrade won't work in the Platinum? What has caused/is causing the delay with the Platinum upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

platinum upgrade

I think he can do the Platinum as well. His FAQ's refer to the prism and platinum using the same dragonball processor. I just emailed him to be sure.

I'll post whatever response I receive.
cheers
