Unhappy

I tried the Palm V stylus in the Visor, and no dice. The stylus fits the slot, but the 'tab' on the stylus prevents it from going in all the way, and it won't stay there. We'll have to see what the 3rd party developers come up with.

Talking

Hawkins did say in an interview that the part he dreads most about designing handheld devices is the stylus. It's apparent that he still hasn't figured this challenge out. Well, guess we will have to leave it up to other engineers to come up with the perfect stylus solution.

Question

I wonder if maybe a Palm V 3rd Party stylus would fit - I have a 'nail' type stylus from PDA Panache and it's absent of the tab present on the normal Palm V Stylus. Would this allow the stylus to fit in the slot, and if so, I wonder if it would hold?

I would guess and say that no stylus will ever be "perfect" no matter how many designers work on it or how many PDAs come out.

You have the screen and the stylus ... the screen has basically been standardized (and all of the software and OS presumably depend on this spec). The stylus (maybe the buttons) is the primary physical interface for the PDA and with millions of people buying them with different hand shapes, flexibility, grips, etc. you expect to find "the Golden Stylus"? You're kidding, right?

If I were to hazard a guess, the One True stylus will be designed (not shipped) on a PDA that uses a voice interface.

... but that's only a guess.

Thumbs down

The question is not the quest for the golden stylus; the real question is with so many after market units out there, why go with a different form factor?

I'm sorry; I must have missed a posting; What's wrong with the stylus that comes with the Visor?
