Exclamation

I've had my Visor for 20 days now.... wow. Here are some comments.

1) What's up with the buttons? While they looked chic out of the box (when compared to the IIIxe , the paint on them is peeling off! (The black paint that has the icon) I've been using my Visor VERY lightly, and have ALWAYS kept it in its snap-on cover in its leather case. I have not used the stylus to activate any of the buttons either, but could someone here tell me if its my visor or if this is a common problem? I mean, how much would it cost for decent button paint?

2) I've heard that you CAN run omnisky on VDX's, despite the out-of-date OS. Could someone please fill me in on this?

3) What's up with this case flexing? It seems every PDA I have owned will give you the same flexing in the right side of the screen case, even though otherwise they're flex-free? I keep worrying about screen damage due to this.... should I be?

That's all for now. Despite these gripings, I'm rather pleased.

i've had my platinum since they came out. i use it a lot. (an hour to two every day as i write on it plenty with the stowaway). my buttons are fine and i often use the stylus to hit them. they show no sign of wear whatsoever.

My memo button is completely worn off and all but the ToDo button (which I never use) are badly chipped off.

My paint was peeling off. Then when I dropped my Visor and had it replaced, the one they sent seemed to do much better. I've had it for a while and the buttons are still fine.

Hmmm

1. The buttons should be peeling off. Especially after 20 days. Call Handspring and get a replacement.

2. OMnisky modem will not work with Deluxe becuase it requires Palm OS 3.5 and above. The Yada Yada Minstrel modem will work (both yadayada and omnisky use the same exact modem with dierent software).

3. Flexing? I am not quite sure what you are talking about here.

Cool Ah!

Well, it's nice to see that I don't have the only one. I don't think it's an issue serious enough to replace the unit, but I cannot help but wonder what else Handspring overlooked while designing these units.

The case flex is coming up 2 inches from the bottom of the Visor (on the Memo Pad button side.) If I depress slightly on the ribbed plastic, I can feel and hear it flex. It's not a hard press at all, nor does the flex, at this point in time, look like it would even be an issue, but I'm still keeping my eye on it.

Also, I already know about the VDX using the late OS, but I've heard of VDX's running it via some method. (I was about to buy one from a guy who ran it on his one before he fell off the earth ) There IS a way, but I don't have the slightest clue what that way is / how!

My button paint is not peeling or chipping after about two months.

For the Omnisky, VC "search" is your friend. Check out

I don't know about the screen flex. Mine does that too, but I noticed the Edge doesn't. :P
