MatchbookDrive Adapter, CF type 1 or 2?

I don't know the type of CF memory that is common/ideal in the market place. I've seen those tiny ones at the stores which look like the same size as smartmedia. I don't know what type they are.

I was considering, might still consider, buying this adapter for $20, but I haven't seen a response to an e-mail inquiry I sent them yet.

Can someone help me understand the characteristics/differences of the two? Is it just a difference in size?

Thanks

The only difference is the "thickness" of the CF card. Type II cards are a millimeter or so thicker than the type I cards. You can easily find Type I CF cards in capacities up to 128MB (and I've heard of a company coming out with a 512 MB Type I CF card). So unless you need > 128MB on a single CF card right now, you probably can get by just fine with a Type I adapter.

Thanks Dave,

It looks like the Microdrives are the devices that are normally type 2 then. Those are really cool! I look forward to the capabilities of future digital still and motion cameras, and when its more affordable.
