After listening to my Visor praise for some time, my wife decided to join 'em. Orange VDX; TNX to this forum for the Staples coupon number.

Now my dilemma. We each have separate calendars and contacts. Mine are synched into Outlook2000. Her's are in a paper notebook, soon to be in her Visor. Obviously, it is easier to enter her records in a PC then synch to a Visor. Also, she needs to synch regularly for backup and Avantgo content. Between us, we have one (1) PC w/ a USB - W98 setup. How can we do this without merging our individual records? I checked this forum, Palm Desktop, MS Tech pages, even asked the family geek. So far, no solution. Seems like I'm swimming upstream. All the work and promises go the other way - sharing or merging files, not segregating.

I tried a separate User Profile in W98. Still uses the same O2000 files. Created a separate *.pst file in O2000. Still no new contact or address files. The new *.pst "Personal Profile" still reads the old address and contact records. If I did create separate address and contact files under the new *.pst file, how would Hotsynch know which one to use in its conduit?

BTW, I checked out WeSynch.com. If I am willing to trust freeware and someone's server, I might solve the Schedule merge dilemma but not the entry problem. That leaves the contact list as a problem.

Alan, does this qualify as a "need" or a "want"?

Outlook and the Palm desktop both allow more than one "USER". When she first hotsyncs her Visor, it will prompt her for a user name. Just make sure she enters a different name than you did. She can use the same docking cradle and software. After the first hotsync, it will recognize the user and switch to the appropriate records.

Enjoy.

Appropriate Records?

Dave-Thanks for the quick response. I do understand the importance of a separate Visor user name for the new machine. I already have her user name setup in Palm Desktop/HotSynch.

Can you explain how Outlook needs to be setup for a separate user? (I know this is MSO2000 stuff, but any help would be appreciated at this point.)
Do I understand you recommend creating separate Contact and Calendar files under a distinct *.pst before the first synch? Otherwise, how will I prevent the initial synch from putting the original (my) Contact and Calendar files into her Visor? I cannot understand how specifying her user name on initial synch will avoid putting the existing Contact and Calendar on her Visor.

May I trouble you for a little more explanation?

The Visor user name gets stored in the Visor. So when a new Visor other than yours gets put in the cradle and the hotsync button is pressed, the software will either: ask for a user name, prompt you to select one from a list, or have a seizure and blow up. ;-)

Just try it. If your data gets put into her Visor, then do a hard reset on hers. That'll put it back to factory state where you can start all over again. Ask me again if you've tried it and for some reason you can't seperate the user data on the Visors.

Red face Same problem

I posted the same topic under a different forum with the exact same problem. I put in different computer users, different pocket mirror settings to no avail. I tried what Visor Central suggested - checked web sites for help on Outlook. Can you tell me more about the web site with free ware to address this problem? In the end, since this was not for me but my parents, I settled on keeping my Dad with Outlook 2000 for his Palm and my Mom with Palm Desktop with her Visor.

WeSynch.com

Sorry folks. This is not spam but a response to a query. I am in no way associated or endorsing this service. Let us know how it works out Pel.

Here is the Answer!

Thanks to Support email from Handspring and a little more digging, I discover PocketMirror does all this. Well, I said I was new. Anyway, for those with this situation, I recommend the following site:

This is the Chapura FAQ.

Thanks to all for your help.
