I'm getting a USB reader and will back up SM cards to CD-ROM.

Um, yeah. Buy a SM Card reader for $25 (ZiO is my preference). Your SM card through the card reader basically becomes an additional drive. Then just copy the entire contents of your SM card to a backup directory on your hard drive. I don't see what the big deal is all about.

If your concern is backing up via hotsync because you don't have a card reader, then my opinion would be you are playing with fire anyway by not having one. What you're basically doing is carrying around a 32mb (64mb, or whatever) floppy disk that is VERY small and easily lost, with no real backup plan.

Just my $2.00 worth (inflation ya know... ).

Confusion Reigns Supreme

I give up. Each time I've just about made a decision on which way to go -- MemPlug, Matchbook, Innopocket, whatever -- something changes in the marketplace. Although from my understanding of all the posts and messages I've read, for us Deluxe owners none of the recent changes/announcements are relevant. We ain't got VFS, so we ain't gonna get auto-move capability.

Now if I could only remember what my purchase decision had been a week or so ago ....

Design Question

Just got my Memplug from Palmgear last night and it is the old design. I prefer to have the latest which I understand doesn't have the card sticking out.

One question: What is the URL which shows both designs pictured side by side? (I've search everywhere for 20 minutes and can't find it.)

I think the maximum capacity for SM is 128 Mb.

Also, akur is correct, SmartMedia currently maxes out at 128mb.

Design Question - Again

Although the outside label on the memplug from Palmgear states "Version 1.0", closer inspection through the acrylic to the circuit board revealed "MEMPLUG V2.0". I suppose it is the latest since the card does not stick out and it was difficult to believe Palmgear would send old hardware. I've had no problems with them to date.

I would still like a link to that URL comparing the 2 models. TIA

BTW, it is working quite nicely and I really hope PiDirect delivers. I can't imagine ever using my 8 MB Springboard again and would like to put it up on ebay.

A 2mb map and mapopolis crashes on my memplug with only 1114k free.

So I asked support@memplug if I needed an equal amount of k in ram to run the map and prog.

This was their answer:


Those maps application may need a large amount of memory for excuting on card. Please reserve enough memory for it to run.
And if the problem still exist, please send your maps database to us to reproduce the problem.
