I have a startac 3000 and would like my edge to speak through it. Is there a prayer?

That's what that guy tied to the tree is askin'...

I don't think analog phones work for any type of data transmission nor do analog networks offer modem capability.

Mark is correct, analog will not work with data transmission.

Now, you have an excuse to upgrade to a new phone...yeah

You forget, I'm in SD. People here just think my cordless has awesome range. All cell networks here are analog, so I'm pretty much SOL.

Bismarck? We go up there when we're ready for a change of scenery. The grass up there is slightly more golden than ours. Are you managing to keep your head above water? I'm thinking we need to send all this rain back down to Houston. James, you should swim on up here. Mosquito season is just beginnin'.

Acoustic coupler?

If you're that hard up for wireless access, you could try an acoustic coupler. It should actually work better over analog cell networks because the analog cell phone transmissions aren't voice-optimized as many digital ones are. It'll probably be very slow though.

Heck, it wasn't just rain we got - we got bad hail last week - we had golf-ball sized hail in our neighborhood, but the town next door, Mandan, got reports of baseball sized hail! Luckily both our cars were in our garage, but we got some minor roof damage, and every time it rains since then the light fixture over our bed drips water on us! And the insurance adjuster is just getting to us today! Some people who had vinyl siding on their house have baseball-sized holes in it now! Whew!

And yeah, it is definitely mosquito season. I got my shotgun loaded and ready for the suckers... LOL

There's a prayer, but it would likely take some hardware hacking of your own to do it. The main problem is that there isn't a modem available to support this on the Palm platform AFAIK. This is not for technical reasons, though. There are PC cards which would allow you to do it. The only thing stopping somebody from doing it is likely that they don't consider it worth the investment. Although, I really could have sworn that certain Motorola phones were going to be supported from that port on the original Xircom springport modem. I suppose they changed their minds at some point, because I can't find any mention of cellular support on these (which makes the port superfluous).

Just called their tech support, and the modem does support analog. Pisser is, they don't make a dongle to the StarTac 3000, and the jack to the modem itself is proprietary (so hacking something becomes interesting). They do support the StarTac 6000, though. Anyone know what the difference is between the two with regard to the connector?

Not 100% sure (since I don't own either), but the OSITech link I provided earlier says that its modem supports both of them with the same cable, so the connectors would seem to be the same.

I'll give it a shot and hope "officially support" is different than "works with."
