Grayscale apps

I just bought a new Visor Platinum, and I have a question about apps that are written to display in grayscale values or color. Specifically, I am referring to ThinkDB. After downloading and installing a demo version of this app I was disappointed to find that many of the tabs or features necessary to navigate or use ThinkDB were next to impossible to see. Also, Thinkingbytes did not include a provision to select standard B&W as a display choice. When contacted, the ThinkDB support position is that my experience with the difficult to see grayscale values is rare (according to Thinkingbytes this is an issue for a very small number of PDAs). It was suggested that the display engine or face plate (?) used on my particular PDA is the culprit and not ThinkDB. Further, I got the feeling that the folks at Thinkingbytes have no intention of providing B&W as a selection in future versions of ThinkDB. What about it, does anybody else find apps written for grayscale (or color) only difficult to see on the Platinum? Adjusting the contrast in not a solution as all grayscale values are impacted upon resulting in darks that are too dark in order to get legible light grayscale values. BTW, standard B&W apps are crystal clear on the display.

I'm inclined to agree w/ the ThinkingBytes rep.

I've been a long-time Visor Deluxe / ThinkDB user; have a *lot* of stuff available at my hip.

Recently upgraded to a VPL, and soon after to the newest ThinkDB. At my contrast level of choice (good for all apps and games), the Field Titles and Tab Names are a very elegant and legible black on grey. Correctly set up and run on functional equipment, it's a great hw/sw combo.

How do other greyscale apps look on your machine? Try Adaball greyscale or bubbles greyscale for good tests (and good fun, too...)

16 greys rules!

HTH,

j.

Yeah, if the greyscale is as difficult to read as you say, you may have a defective unit. ThinkDB2 looked fine on both a plat and an edge for me. As john sez, check other greyscale apps, and check them all in as many lighting situation as possible. And don't hesistate to call HandSpring and request a new unit. Life's too short to squint.
