Beaming with Sony Clie?

Hello All!
The wife just bought a new Clie (With Circuit $hitty's $50 rebate and all, it was quite a bit cheaper than a Plat.) and I tried beaming my business card to her. Nothing. The Platinum says it is searching for a computer, and the Clie says nothing. Her beam receive is on, and I know my IR port works fine - I synch my Plat to my laptop via IR a couple times a day.

Is there anything else to check? I'm going to try synching the Clie to the laptop to see if it is the IR port. But, shouldn't they be compatable?

They should be. I beam between my wife's VDx and my CLIE all the time. Neither are overclocked are they? Also, I've found that certain specific devices are fussy about distance. For instance, I have to be within about 6" of my friend's VDx to beam to him but I can beam to my wife's from up to about 30".

No, neither are OC'ed. It is strange - I've had them right next to either, a couple inches away, with IR ports touching, etc. I hope she doesn't have a bad IR port... I did try beaming from the Clie to the VPl and the Clie just acted stupid - never even tried to beam, no warning, just selected a contact and hit beam, and nothing....Strange.

been there done that!

I had the same problem with my Clie when I got it three days ago. I was about to take it back when I realized I hadn't tried a reset. Performed a hard reset (no data on board yet) and...voila...it works like a charm. Some one else here had the same problem and that fixed theirs also. Give it a try.

Thanks to all.

Did a hard reset on the wife's Clie and now everything is fine. We are beaming like pros!

I'd wondered

So, a hard reset is the trick. I'd tried to beam Benchmark to a CLIE at CompUSA and it failed, while a previous beam (bejeweled I think - to test the color, resolution and response time of the screen succeeded.

Has anyone had this problem re-apprear or it only a 'factory installed issue'?

How ironic my wife also just got a CLIE and we had problems beaming, turns out it was my PRISM which I got two months ago and one day the beamer died. I did the Hard reset thing and nothing! I eventually exchanged it at best buy with their awesome extended warranty My replacement unit didn't have the hotsync connector mounted in the case properly and I had to open it up. All I can say is I love Handspring but their quality control leaves something to be desired seeing as how this is my 5th Visor in a year and a half I hope they get their act together before they Tank.
