JetLog PowerNapping Module

Has anyone heard anything about this? I was at PalmGear and when I read about it I almost fell over. This module is designed to help users take "PowerNaps" without the Negative Effects of Napping?

Here is the link:

Here is their WebSite:

What an interesting module. I wonder if it will sell?

Ok, this sounds like a great scheme. Fall asleep, thumb falls off button, alarm sounds. And all for only $100!!! Hmmm.....

Before reading the details I thought this would be a springboard version of an alpha-wave inducer like you see now in Sharper Image.

What the?

I am as happy as anyone else to see new Springboards come out and support the Visor. But how can we not have an Ethernet Springboard yet we have a PowerNapping springboard.

Hey springboard makers, what's next, the Bowel Movement springboard?

" Keep track of your bowel movements with this great new springboard. If it detects that you are constipated it will offer some food and medicine recomendations."

Give me an Ethernet module.

This module is precisely why there are no other modules. All the developers are too busy sleeping to do anything else.

And all this time I thought PowerNaps were supposed to make you MORE productive...

For next year's VisorCentral Awards, I think there should be a category for "Most pointless module" and this should win it. I agree with OrangeDeluxe, if this had some kind of external sensors to measure sleep patterns, then this would be an okay module.

Utz, I like your idea of a bowel movement module. Maybe you should mention that in the developer's forum

I'm convinced that if you use it you will become irratable and paranoid like all those people in that episode of Star Trek.

Well, infact we do. It's the Xircom Springbort 802.11B adapter. I own one and the wireless internet access makes much more sense at home and in the office. I picked one up on Ebay for about $105, the AP was about $170. For about the same price as a newly released "Wired" springboard (combined, $275), you could have wireless! What's better is that you don't need to drag a 100ft. 10-BaseT cable with you to browse the web, check e-mail, etc.

If you want Ethernet, go wireless! I've also used it outside in the back yard several hundred feet away from my home office (and Access Point). Worked great!

Just a suggestion

Low Tech Effect

Haven't proven this scientifically - but here's how I manage the exact same effect.

Take a nap - holding your keys in one hand so they'll fall to the floor if your fingers were to come apart (takes some figuring to prop your arm in the right position).

The second you hit that deep sleep - your muscles relax and you loose grip on the keys - they fall to the floor and wake you up. You end up napping for about 10 minutes - and it's timed just perfectly so you wake up feeling perfectly refreshed - none of that groggy feeling.

Used this technique through undergrad and now law school - works like a charm. I'm thinking this module works on the same principle. Give it a try one day when you're feeling tired (if you remember).

If I'm taking a nap on a couch - I usually prop my arm so the keys will fall right on me.

Sounds weird, I know - but give it a try! Won't cost you $99!

keys aren't loud enough to wake me up - I need something like a horn!

I would love to, but the place I want to use the ethernet access is on campus, and there is no wireless offered - though there are several hard access points.

GIVE US A WIRED ETHERNET MODULE.

Portsmith offers ethernet cradles, but - even though they origianlly said they would - they have not come out with a cradle for the Prism.

I could just see it.

1) Insert Nap Module ($99) into VisorPrism ($299) before deciding to take a nap in Library.
2) Place fingers on module.
3) While drifiting off to sleep, muscles jerk and hand swipes across the desk.
4) VisorPrism ($299) with new Nap Module ($99) fall to the hard-wood floor of the Library busting into 4 pieces.
5) Catching the whole event on video tape, Priceless.

I think I'll wait till Version 1.1 of this module that doesn't require the Visor

Before I launch more complaints, I'll again say that I do want the Visor to have support. I am glad modules are comming out, but how many more questionable modlues can the market take?

Now the comlaint: I think a module that uses the Visor just for a battery is pointless. This sleep module could be $20 if it had its own battery. Instead they add $60 worth of flash, software, and other components just so they can use the Visors battery.

More module ideas:

The flashlight module. Software tells you how much battery power is left. Price: $49.99

The car alarm control module. Press a button and your car alarm is set. Press another and it is disarmed. Software tells how many times you pushed the button. Price: $59.99

The sit-up module. Velcro your Visor to the wall. Each time you do a sit up press the button woth your forehead. Software counts the number of sit-ups you do. Price: $99.99

Feel free to steal these ideas. I don't want any royalties.

Since most of these modules make me WANT to bang my head against a wall, I might as well get one of those and know how many times I did it.

Hmmm...

It would not be that hard to rig up a little device with a battery and a loud buzzer/horn on a 'deadman' switch to replace the keys...

Pop it into a slim case with room for the leads, and you can carry it anywhere!

I bet that if I made something like this up that duplicated most of what this module does, I could not sell it for more than about $25

I think this is a good idea for a module, but that it is priced a bit high.

Bad news. You can do that with OmniRemote. There's some thread about it somewhere if you want to look.
