Hi Guys,

I'm searching for info about the serial port on the Handspring Models Visor and Visor Deluxe. What I already know is that there is an adapter-cable form atl for the visor. But is there one for the visor deluxe, since it supports usb? Or is the only difference between these two models that the visor deluxe has an _additional_ usb-port?

thx

cu

The only difference between the Visor and Visor Deluxe is that one has 8 Mb and the other 2 Mb. They both support USB and have a "partial" serial connector, the serial cords for both models will be identical.

Question Serial /USB

My question is simple I think. I have a USB cradle with my Visor on my desktop machine. I have an older laptop that does not have USB. Will I be able to sync my Visor through the serial port on the laptop since I bought the USB Visor?

I tried doing the network sync, but I sure that I doing something wrong. The laptop and desktop are one a LAN and I tried looking at Handspring's FAQ and the help file that came with the Palm Desktop, but something was not working correctly. Has anyone done a sync across the network?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I've done it.

You need to install the sync software on both machines. Then make sure the HotSync Manager for your Laptop has "Local Serial" and "Network" selected, and your desktop has "Local USB" and "Network" selected. Also, on your desktop's HotSync Manager, under "Setup", "Network", make sure your username is checked. It should NOT be checked on your Laptop, since that's not your Primary PC.

Run the Hotsync app on your Visor. In the Options menu go to "LANSync Prefs" and make sure LANSync is selected. Sync locally with your desktop first to make sure your Primary PC settings are ok. You can go to Options, "Primary PC Setup" and make sure your network settings are ok.

Then plug your visor to your laptop with the serial cradle I assume you have, and do a sync. HotSync manager should come up and say "forwarding to..." and you should be doing a sync. You should try to have the two computers side by side the first couple of times you try this, to make sure it works.

Lightbulb

Thanks for the info regarding that network sync. I was under the impression that I could sync my laptop Outlook through the network from my desktop that has the USB cradle. But I guess not. I will try this when I get home to make sure that my settings are all allright.

If not then I will purchasing one of those serial cable links from ATL.

Keep up the good work Guys Who Moderate.

You're right, you're not actually syncing your two Outlooks, you're simply syncing your remotely connected Visor to the Outlook on your Primary PC.
