Thumbs down

So I was checking out Outpost.com for any deals when I stumbled upon the Targus "Palm Pilot Leather Case". It looked exactly like one a coworker has which fit my Visor pretty well. So I took a chance and ordered it yesterday, it shows up this morning, and it is terrible. It could almost be the perfect case because of the leather "compartment" securing the Visor, but the quality is very poor; the stitching is sloppy and the leather that holds the Visor is unevenly shaped covering the rightmost buttons, obscuring the top 1/4" of the screen, and causing the top right corner of the Visor to jut out. If you ever run across this one, don't buy it.

I've seen some positive comments about the Handspring cases (which I am readying myself to order if I can't locate anything else that leaves only the screen and hard buttons exposed), but was wondering if there were any contrary opinions I should hear before placing an order with them.

Many thanks -
chimp

Don't bother with the Rhinoskin Shock Suit, either. For $35, I've not seen a more poorly constructed piece of garbage. Flimsy doesn't even begin to describe it. From the look on the Web sites that advertise it, it looks like some sort of molded rubber case. Not so. It's covered in neoprene, and it looks cheap cheap cheap.

Dissatisfied, I called Rhinoskin and expressed my displeasure with the case. They were pleasant and helpful, offering to pay the return shipping on the case and took my order for the Rhinoskin 1100 over the phone, and upgraded my shipping to boot.

You might also want to check out the cases on the Franklin-Covey site. I just got a Pocket binder made for Palm III and it works quite well. I uses a leather pocket of sorts to hold the Visor in place. The screen and buttons are visible. I think they also have one that is even smaller than the one that I got. The workmanship is also excellent. Only drawback is price. At the FC site the pocket version runs $99, but I got mine from Buy.com and got it for $78, plus if you get it by the end of this month you can get a $20 rebate. So for $58, it is a pretty good deal. Good luck in your choice.

You might also want to check out E&B cases. They have some nice slipper type cases that seem to cover all but the screen and buttons.

Thanks for the advice...

I've checked out your suggestions and have even stumbled upon one or two neat looking cases which I have yet to see mentioned in any posts. As soon as I get around to going home I'll post urls (unless I forgot to bookmark them). Thanks again.

Question

What model/manufacturer is the one your coworker has? If that one works well why not get one of those? I had been lookin at the Targus case you mentioned, it looked like it would work good, thanks for the confirmation to the contrary.

I have a leather case (the C.E.O) on order from MarWare at www.marware.com. They also have some zipper Neopropene types. I'll let you know what I think when it gets here.

The quest for a half-decent case continues.

badkarma - my co-worker got his case as a gift, and he doesn't know where it came from. There's no logo or label on the thing.

I had found some nice looking cases that I haven't seen mention of on here, but I've misplaced the urls. When I find them I'll post them.

The manufacture a wide range of cases for all sorts of handhelds and have cases that fit the Visor.

I have ordered the DVP3M case and should have it in a few days. I will post when I get it and let you know what i think of it.

You can purchase from their website (in stock) or from PalmGear (currently backordered)

Question

dequardo,

Would you tell us how well the Devian DVP7 fits the Visor?

Is this a slim case?

Is there an opening for the IR port?

Talking

The DVP7 fits the Visor perfectly. It slips into a slip yoke on the right side. Very slim case. Nice leather. There is an opening by the sync port but you can not sync while it is in the case. A snap closure that clasps on the right hand edge.
Very well made.

Question

Thanks for the reply.

Is there an opening on the side to allow beaming information? I'm not sure if you answered this question. Thanks again.

dequardo,
I'm interested in buying the DVP7 also. Could you tell me whether there is any problem accessing all the buttons? Is the cut out on the bottom big enough?
Thank you,
Saran

No problem at all, yes the cut-out is sufficient.

Just noticed that the leather pocket-size binder that Franklin Covey sells for $99.00 is now on sale at their web site for $69.95 w/ $7.50 for shipping. I'm not sure if there's still a rebate for it as well.

Hobart, if you're still out there, you had posted that you are using this binder. Do you still like it? Can it fit in the front pant pocket or is it just too bulky?

Joe,
I have been using the case for a couple of weeks now and do like it. However it would not fit in a pant pocket unless you wore big cargo pants. I have paper on one side in a binder with lots of Frnklin covey organinzer pages. I wanted to have paper for when i need to make a note to put in a file or to give to someone. Hope that helps, and good luck picking out a case that will work for you.
