Are you compelled to buy modules based on how often you will use it / how well you can integrate into your everyday life? Or do you buy modules just for it's bells and whistles?

I buy modules based on practically... that's why I haven't seen a useful one yet!

The wireless modules do seem useful, too bad no service in Canada

The 8mb Flash Module has nearly no novelty value, but immense practical value. I started off with a 2mb Visor, but discovered that there was so much I could do with it that i outgrew it immediately. $80 later, I'm back in the game with room to spare.

And, No... it is not filled with games! Less that 300k out of 6.5 mb are game-related.

Someone really needs to make a viable API for removable storage.

Hackmaster became the de facto extensions manager... isn't the same possible for removable prism storage?

I would love for the CF adapter to be able to run apps off it... as I already have a few CF cards.

I purchase them for practical purposes, at least I justify each purchase as practical. That whole argument really gives me grief because I really want the Geode. I just cannot justify the cost vs. usefulness. Nor can I justify purchasing a product with a primary use for outdoors, when I cannot even see the screen of my Prism when I am out there. And yet, every time I see one I think, "Man, I gotta have that".

I'm all about practicality

I hear ya GSR13. I think the idea of a GPS is great, I actually own a standalone. Come to think of it though, nothing beats a good ole Thomas Guide. The best part though of a GPS is that it tells you "you are here", so you have an idea of whether or not you're on the right track. All these electronics/springboards/etc, etc... you don't really NEED any of them per say, you know?
Anyway, my vote is for practicality.

Ok, ok. I admit it. I bought the backup module for it's practicality. But I swear my SoundsGood and Magellan GPS Companion are pure toys!!

more practicality than novelty ... but definitely a little of both. c'mon, who really needs/uses the GPS module?

I have to admit that I bought my Minijam for the novelty .. I've been eyeing the MP3 players ever since the first Rio came out. Contrary to what everybody says about how bad innogear is I love my Minijam. I knew about their lack of following through on their promises, but I bought it anyways because of the free 32mb upgrade But I guess I should save my innogear comments for another thread

Why not both? I got my springport modem, backup and InnoPak 2v for practicality, my eyemodule, GPS module, SoundsGood and Minstrel for novelty.

The Minstrel had the potential to be practical, but it's buggy enough to be more useful for the cool geek factor than to be really something I depend on.

Practicality and fun are one.

The backup module and the the Stowaway keyboard are definitely practical purchases as is the synching cable which I carry in my iBook case. The eyeModule was more for fun although I've managed to use it for work, as well.



As a Mac user, I've learned that it's a false dichotomy to separate utility and fun or utility and aesthetics. Why not have both?
