Talking

That is incorrect. A hard reset does not remove everything.
More than meets the eye.

#2's on its way back to Handspring. Hit the power button: nothing. I've tried all sorts of resets to no avail. I even took the back off the thing and made sure that all connections were good (those I could find, anyway ? e.g. battery, screen, etc.). I'm happy to report that, contradictory to bblue's rumor, the case is entirely anodized aluminum. The plastic only constitutes the rim (and if you're going to take the back off, you can, more than likely, leave the screws in the plastic alone). I've commandeered my wife's prism for the duration.

One thing I've noticed with my Edge is that the screen seems to be on the fragile side. Within a couple of days of use, I noticed the Graffiti area was scratched up quite a bit. I know it wasn't the stylus (PDAPanache Duo) I was using, because it's the same one I've used on my Newton over the last 3-4 years. And the Newton doesn't have a scratch on it. So I've used the Scotch tape trick, but it still bothers me. Not to mention the full length scratch from using 'top to bottom' pen shortcut.

Another thing that bothers me is that the Datebook hard button sometime takes 2-3 presses to work. It doesn't do it all the time, so it might be me.

Just thought I'd throw out some things I've noticed, and ask, should I complain to Handspring about this?

----
UPDATE:
I just called Handspring and they're sending me out a new Edge.

Yeah. It's the only way they're going to know if it's an issue with enough devices that they need to adjust manufacturing, and you shouldn't have to put up with it, regardless.

Unhappy She's hot, but...

Just got my Blue Edge last night. BEE-Utiful, everything is perfect, except that a full 2 rows of pixels are missing on the left side. Just WHOOSH, gone. Actually, never there. Sending me a new one....

Everything works great on my Edge, except...

When I first got it, I had some Fatal Exception errors on startup, but a hard reset took care of that. I guess it was a result of a nearly drained battery at shipment.

My problem right now is that the backlight still doesn't work, even after two hard resets. I'll be getting the replacement in the mail soon, so... Knock on wood.

I just got a call from a friend in Cali. She got the Visor Edge a month ago for birthday / graduation from med school. She got the Fatal Exception error. She did a hard reset, but as soon as the Palm Computing screen comes out, she'd get another Fatal Exception error.

Told her to call Handspring for a replacement unit.

That's exactly what happened to mine, what with the Fatal Exception on the Palm Computer intro screen. However, after a hard reset, it sorta freezed up in this "off" mode where it wouldn't turn on nor would it charge. Then after a few minutes, I tried a hard reset again and it everything worked again... except for the backlight.

Exclamation New Poll Up!

If you've had a problem with your Visor Edge, please go to the new poll and indicate what batch your Edge came from: Mexico, Malaysia, or somewhere else.

Let's see if we can correlate problems to assembly location.

Thanks for the support.

Location of purchase might also be valuable information.

Just got today, no problems on first inspection

I just received my Visor Edge in the mail today. Upon removing it from the box, I noticed no obvious cosmetic issues. I hooked up the cradle to the power supply, and began charging. The Edge turned itself on when the power was plugged in, and on startup everything looked normal. I was able to continue setup. The digitizer seems to be working fine. I did a restore of my old Visor data, and that went well too.

Thus far, after approximately 1 hour of charging and light use, I have seen no problems. Right now it's charging up in the cradle (at 30%).

I'll let you all know if I have any problems with it.

BTW This one was manufactured in Mexico.

Well, another hour later, and I thought to check the backlight.

Sure enough, the backlight does not work. Called up Handspring tech support, and after they made *absolutely sure* that it really wasn't working, they promised to send a new one out right away.

Other than the backlight, I haven't noticed any other problems with the Edge... I didn't use the backlight a whole lot on my Visor Deluxe anyway, but when I want to use it, I *really* want to use it... so I figure it's something to be fixed.
