Question

Hi people - I have a Visor Prism and am looking for a cable which will allow me to connect to both a modem and also the console RJ45 socket on a Cisco router ....

Does anyone know of ONE cable (plus any necessary convertors) which can do this ?

I've already visited www.markspace.com - apparently their cable can only be guaranteed to do the task that it is built for - i.e. if it is built to connect to a modem it will do so - but obviously they can't guarantee that it'll work with a Cisco, 'cause any convertor I use would be upto me ... (I'd be using the convertor that comes with Cisco routers - serial->RJ45 if I remember correctly)

Thanks

I can't help you out much, but I do know that the connector for the converter for cisco routers is a serial to RJ45 connection, but the serial connection is the big one that looks like a LPT port, not a normal sized one.

Thanx for the info - actually the console port is a RJ45 connection - the convertor I'm talking about is the grey one that Cisco provide - that allows a user to use their 9 pin serial port and convert it to a RJ45 connector which can then be plugged into the RJ45 Cisco console port.

Yeah, the converter was the part that I was talking about. The one that I have is 25 pin I think, but I'm not sure, I'll check on monday when I get to work.

It depends - you can get both - and Cisco routers ship with both types - a 25 pin convertor and a 9 pin one
