problems with hot-syncing

I have been unable to hot-sync my Deluxe for about 2 months now. It displays the message "Connection could not be established. Please check your setup and try again" after I sit it in the cradle. The connections are all intact and I tried to hot-sync on another computer and it didn't work: ie, probably the Deluxe itself. I am not sure if I might have deleted some vital piece of software on accident. Does anyone know the essential software (and names of them) necessary for hot-syncing? also, it so, could you attach them to your message?
thanks so much!

Well, you're not about to delete the files necessary for hotsyncing on a vdx, they're in ROM and you can't...

1) I would try a soft reset (just hit the reset button) and then sync... and if that doesn't help, try a warm reset (hit reset while holding down the "up" button. Do a soft reset afterwards, as sitting in "warm reset mode" is screwy for a visor) and a sync.

...if neither works...:

2) It is also possible that the problem is, in fact, with the software. Backup your files, uninstall the desktop, reinstall the latest rev from Handspring.com, and then try step 1 with the new software.

...if it still doesn't work, you're 95% likely to have a hardware problem. The only know to know for sure is to do a hard reset (hit reset while holding down the power button) and sync with a freshly installed desktop. Of course, all the data on your visor will be toasted unless you have a backup module. If it's hardware, start calling HS (even if you're out of warranty) and get them to replace it.

have fun. Good luck!

Angry new problem!

Thanks for the input: I did a soft-reset and, ta-da!, it hot-synced. however, it hot-synced x2, and now won't work again, despite soft and warm-reseting the Deluxe. does that indicate anything to you as to whether this is a software vs hardware problem? thanks a lot.

Well, still sounds like a software glitch in the sync setup. I can't really place it...

i know that others (myself included, long ago?) have had double hotsync issues.. so in a sense you having it happen is a good thing in that we've got another symptom. I can't seem to find what I'm thinking of with a quick search.

So I'm assuming that it's back to "connection could not be established." Weird. I guess we'll need the vitals:

1)What software are you syncing to (palm desktop, outlook, etc)
2)platform (Win os 9x, xp, mac os, something else)
3)hacks (keyboard driver, any hacks)
4)What conduits do you have installed?
5)other possible software issues...

yep. I still suggest going through step 2, above. Copy your user folder (your hotsync last name & first initial, in the handspring folder) to some safe place. Uninstall the hotsync & palm desktop. Delete the random files, and reinstall the latest palm desktop from handspring, here.
