Question

Hello--

I just received my visor and am now dying for a good holster style case. The one on the Handspring site looks a little cheap, and I'd rather one with some protection. The optimal design for me would be EXACTLY like the one that you could get for the PalmV. It clips to the belt, is made of leather, and just has a folding flap on top that velcros down. Allows quick access to the device with 1 hand and empties up your pockets.

This presents two problems. First of all, I can't find anybody who makes a device like this. Second of all, remember that any good Visor case needs to have some "give" for my Innogear MP3 player and the ability for a small antenna (pager) or headphone wire to come out of the top.

So my best bet so far I think is www.thepouch.com. The Pouch looks real nice, has a velcro top, belt strap, and protected front panel for the screen. I spoke with them on the phone the other day, and they are working on a case right now. I suggested that they incorporate my need to get my Innogear MP3 player in there :-) -- since it sticks out the back and top a bit.

So any thoughts? Anybody else out there a "holster" user and know of a good holster that matches these specs. I'll probably end up waiting for the The Pouch.... we'll see.

Also--any good 3rd party styli makers yet? I don't want to order 5 styli and wait for 4 weeks for 'em!

I was just thinking....

Maybe I could convert the slip case to a belt holster until I get a better one. I wonder if there is anything I can "stick" on the back of that case to make it a belt clip. There must be something out there for doing this... It would have to be really stuck on there to keep the Case from falling off though....

They glue heat tiles to the space shuttle, so I'm sure there's a retail product available that'll keep your visor attached to your belt. Although, I doubt they'll certify you for atmospheric re-entry There are limits to what a springboard module can achieve in the interests of rocket science.

PS. Try an appropriate epoxy resin or good old superglue, if all else fails.

Exclamation

Have you ever seen what happens to those tiles on the shuttle? They get all charred and broken! Somehow I doubt my visor would withstand the force of reentry.......

Watch converting leather slipcase into a belt
holder. You don't want your Visor slipping
out the top of the case when you're on the move. So maybe glue/stitch some velcro tabs either side of the case with a velcro strap across it.

As for holding a loop of some description it shouldn't be hard to find something to stick it together. I'd recommend contact cement, neither superglue or epoxy resin work terribly well on a porus surface like leather.

Keep looking! I saw (now, think, think, think) a leather slipcase with a belt loop, belt clip, and a flop over velcro attached top on a site earlier today. I know it fits the Visor but cant comment on the springboard. Aaarrrgghhh! Just can't think of the site. But it was nice looking and not too expensive. I'll keep looking.

I think what you are looking for can be found at www.ebcases.com

They will be taking "Pre" orders on 11/7/99. They have what appears to be a nice beltclip setup for the V. I can't wait to see pictures!

Thanks for your replies everyone, but I already bought a good belt clip holster. See my review at

Question

Couldn't you just take the existing leather case, attatch a clip (something like the ones from www.theclip.com), sew on a piece of fabric that covers the top and velcros on the front, and have a belt clip case (for less that 10.00?)

Not that it matters now (heck, even I'm evaluating the Pouch...), but I'm using the 3Com beltclip case for the Palm III series and it fits my Visor (with the screen cover) just fine. The only thing it's missing is a pocket for my backup springboard, hence my evaluation of the Pouch. The upside to the 3Com case is that it works (and has been redesigned from the early days, the clip hooks back under the belt and is practically impossible to dislodge) and you can buy one today in any Best Buy.

The fine folks at Levenger (www.levenger.com) have some very nice cases for Palm III's that are made of top-quality leather and often have other perks like places for business cards or notepads and nice pen loops. Don't know if the Visor will fit in a case made for the Palm III and not cover up anything it shouldn't, but it's all worth a look anyway.
