Question

I have Outlook Express 5.0 and am unable to sync with it. The process stalls.
I also don't have the selectable boxes for MAPI and "default" in the options as required in instructions.
Can anyone help me out please?

PocketMirror does not work with Outlook Express. Outlook Express is an e-mail and Newsgroup reader. PocketMirror synchronizes Outlook's Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notes to the Palm built-in applications. E-mail synchronization is provided by Palm.

I think Michael may mean that he is unable to download his mail from Outlook Express into his Visor.

If this is the case, the onscreen instructions that mention "the selectable boxes for MAPI" were written for Outlok Express 4.0. I believe that as long as Outlook Express is shown as the default mail reader when you check Tools/Options/General (at the bottom), then you should be fine. I had the exact same concerns (not finding the selectable boxes) but I did nothing except select Outlook Express in the mail setup and it worked fine.

Be aware that your Visor will not just download the mail that is in your Inbox, but it will connect with your mailbox(es) and see if there is any new mail (similar to pressing the Send/Receive button in Outlook Express). For this to work, you need to have your Outlook Express open and online. It could be that this is where your problem lies. Are you online when you hotsync? Do you have Outlook Express setup to connect automatically?

I hope any of this helps.

I am currently synching my mail with Outlook Express ver. 5.00.2314.1300

You may need to check your "Mail Setup" (for the Palm Desktop) configuration to make sure that you have Outlook Expr. selected.

In Outlook Expr., if you go to Options under the Tools menu, there is a button (2nd to the last at the bottom) in the General tab. If Outl. Expr. is your default mail app this button is grayed out and the text to the left of it indicates that it's your default. Otherwise, click the button. Outl. Expr. 5 does not seem to have the MAPI thing.

If you already have it configured like this or the above does not get you out of the woods, consider removing the Palm Desktop and re-installing.

By the way, I'm assuming you are runing Win9x.

Good luck.

You might also want to go to the control panel/internet (options)/programs...and set default mail to Outlook Express

Thanks for the help guys,
your posts confirmed for me that I was setting it up correctly. What fixed the problem was updating/re-installing Outlook Express 5.0
I suppose some part of it was corrupted.
Everything works perfectly now.
