Thanks for your response! I have noticed the drop down list disappearing, but it didn't happen when I tried the test you suggested.

I made sure that all of my sound options were properly set for the SMS alert, but I still don't get the proper sound.

If you could keep me up to date on what you hear from AirPrime regarding fixes for these problems, I' greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I think it would be really cool if the details of each call in the log would tell you how long the call lasted...and then even better if it'd keep a running total of calls made - best if you could clear it at the end of each billing period. At least, I think it'd be really cool�

More SB3000 Oddities

Mark,
I wanted to let you know about some other problems that I am seeing so that you can relay them to AirPrime. I'm not even going to bother trying Sprint Support on this, because it's WAY outside what their people are trained for! I also wanted to post this here for others to read instead of sending directly to you.

The module got itself into a state where SMS alerts would not be received. The Prisim would power on but the alert was never received. So, I pulled the module and re-inserted it. When I powered on, all of the alerts came through.

Thanks for all of your help on this!

By the way, is there any way all of that have the SB 3000 could get a way to contact AirPrime support to report bugs that we find? I think that would really help them out. (And us!)

AirPrime tech Support

Well. I was having a tough time with my SB3000 until I did a Hard Reset and re-installed my applications one at a time. It looks like TEXTPlus and PDA Defense were the ones giving me problems. I have been in regular contact with AirPrime Tech Support and we have been trying diffrent things. They are very honest and up front that they are new to the PalmOS world. They know the SB3000 and and how it works but they do not know much about third party hacks and other Palm stuff. They are learning. I do think they need to start a message forum or somthing so they can keep track of problems with diffrent software mix. The tech I have been working with has a Prism with MultiMail and the SB3000. (That's it.) Well of course he isn't gonna have many problems. Now My Prism has a 16meg upgrade and I have only 4meg of free space. So you can say I have a heafty mix of programs and hacks going. I was also supprised that they havent tried PalmVNC, ICQ or JMobile WebClipping. I mean that is the main selling point for me Internet access!! I am going to ask the tech's to check out the VC message forum and hopefully we can get them to start comming here and answering questions.

one of the thumb keyboard options yet?

SB3000 Reception Quality and Status of Mark's SB3000 Review????

Does anybody have a comparison of the reception of the SB3000 to other Sprint PCS phones?

I live on the edge of a Sprint PCS coverage area and I probably wouldn't be able to stand poorer reception on a new phone.

When will we see Mark's review of the SB3000?

As for reception, I've been carrying the SB3000 and my StarTAC for almost 2 weeks. Here at home, I hardly ever get more than 1 bar on either's signal meter (I live in a valley and the cell tower is on the back side of the hill). The SB3000 is as good if not better than the StarTAC. It doesn't seem as sensitive to weak signals... the StarTAC sometimes drops calls walking from room to room, but I haven't experienced that yet with the SB3000.

At the office, I get absolutely no Sprint PCS signal (every other cell provider works - Sprint PCS keeps getting denied putting up another tower by the locals). There, the StarTAC has the advantage because of analog roam, something the SB3000 doesn't provide (a major drawback to a single-band phone).

In other places where I get full or almost full strength signals, there's no discernable difference between the two phones. It seems that the bottom line is the SB3000 is as good or maybe a bit better than the StarTAC in low signal areas. Of course, your mileage may vary.

SB3000 Undocumented Features?

SB3000 users and reviewers -- I need your input!

Do the few "Undocumented Features" of the SB3000 that have been discussed in this thread make you wish that you had either

1) chosen the GSM VisorPhone?
or
2)waited for the bugs to get worked out before buying the phone?

I am stongly considering buying the phone, but I do not want to pay $250 to be a beta tester.

Coverage is probably not an issue for me. Sprint and GSM network coverage are about equal in the areas that I live and travel for business.

what "undocumented features" are you referring to?

It doesn't have a couple of the bells and whistles that my Samsung 8500 had, but then I only have to update one phone list now - and I can store a LOT more phone numbers than I could before.

My only major complaint with my unit is that it doesn't always tell me when an incoming phone call is incoming - often I find out later when I've got voicemail and never got notification (from the phone, at least) that I had an incoming call (this seems like the most basic - one of the two most basic, at least - function of a phone and it isn't reliable, at least with my unit�

if that gets fixed though, I'll be a happy camper - and if they could add a couple more features I'd be a really happy camper.

Think I got it fingered out!

I think I know what the conflict is that causes my Digital Link to not ring on incoming calls.

When I'm running SilverScreen the Digital Link doesn't ring/vibrate. When I Exit SilverScreen it works as expected/intended.

I hope they fix this, I really like having my Prism look like OS X (but I'll turn it off if it means my phone won't ring when I have an incoming call)

I'll keep testing to make sure this is it, but the evidence seems pretty weighty so far. If anyone else has the Digital Link and SilverScreen please test it and let me know if the same happens for you.

Sprint PCS Digital Link

I have had the Digital Link for about 3 weeks now.

I've the following problems.

No message, SMS, or phone notification.
Visor Prism turning on after I've turned it off.

Airprime tells me they will have a fix for the first problem for me to test next week. It will be some software load. I'm guessing along the lines of an OS update.

Didn't really think the second one was a problem till I read it here.

I'm using the visorphone case, and it works okay.

I still think it's pretty cool.
