I too am waiting for the omnisky. I will buy either it or the visor phone depending on which does what I want it to do.

I read that it will be available within two weeks at: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article.asp?aid=32122

I've also been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Minstrel S modem. I would have already bought a Palm V if it weren't for the fact that with the Visor you'll have the ability to use the keyboard at the same time. Being able to remotely administer my Linux webserver anytime, anywhere from my Visor makes the geek inside me weep with joy. Since my work is entirely online, I spend a lot of time connected to the Internet, which means having to spend way too much time inside planted in front of a computer. This one little Springboard is going to relieve a lot of stress for me. Now when's that wireless broadband module coming out?

No, you're not the only one waiting, but I'm only curious about the production features at this point. I'm not dying from anticipation.

James, is that a no for "no you're not the only one waiting?" or no, for "no, it won't support color"

I saw an ad on the Long Island Railroad yesterday for Omnisky and it showed a Visor with Minstrel in the slot. It had a stubby antenna sticking up but otherwise didn't look to bulky.

Unhappy

I got impatient and called OmniSky on Monday to see if they had an update on when the Minstrel-S would be available. I was told that it wasn't available yet, but they expected it to be before the end of the month. I also asked if it would work in the new Handspring Prism and was told that it would. In my excitement, I forgot to ask if the software that they are using would support color (on the Prism) and if they will include IMAP support.

I guess that I will try calling them again in the morning

If your not looking at the Novatel and OmniSky web sites everyday, looking at the pictures seeing if they are updated, your not looking hard enough!

Thumbs down Omnisky

I own the Minstrel V modem and have been an Omnisky customer since they started offering service. So this IS an educated opinion THEY SUCK.......Once your modem is going, they can't really screw it up since it is dependant on AT&T or Verizon's coverage. My experience is that their customer service is total crap, their service reps are light on knowledge.....and on top of all of it.....My latest info says that they have passed over offering service on the Handspring in favor of the Jornada, yes I know it is on their website, but it is simply not true. I am switching to YadaYada.....Their Reps are cool as all hell, they ARE shipping currently and they are completely competitive with omnisky on rates.

Looks like Omnisky will not offer color support for the Prism, Bummer.

http://www.omnisky.com/newsletter/offer/20001026.html

"Compact wireless modem
OmniSky delivers wireless Internet service to your Handspring Visor Platinum or Prism through the sleek, compact OmniSky Minstrel S wireless modem. Although Visor Prism offers a color interface, we currently support only monochrome service for Visor."

I'll keep looking...

Thumbs up Minstrel S

I have one, and it's a lot more cumbersome than one might believe. It looks just like its pictures, but protrudes from the back of my Visor Prism by a good half-inch, and sticks up an inch - more if you count the antenna. It also adds a good deal of weight to the Visor Prism, which is hefty enough on it's own; it seems to be the price one pays for color!

And by the way, it seems to support color. At least, I'M seeing color in the e-mail app.

It works as advertised, though, which (I guess) is the most important thing.

I'll be happy to answer any questions provided I'm not besieged. And if someone would tell me how to do it, I can even post a picture of it in my Prism.

Cheers!
