Cool

Hello--

After much research, I finally received my case protector of choice--The Pouch (www.thepouch.com). It is a great holster-style case. I choice this case for several reasons. First of all, I like convenient access to my Visor on my belt--I like to keep my pockets free and like to have my Visor in quick reach. I was also concerned about space for springboards that might be larger than the slot. I really wanted to be able to listen to my MP3 player while walking around. I also wanted good protection while the Visor was in the case.

The Pouch is a nice option. The physical pouch is made of Neoprene--like the material in dive suits. It is slightly elastic, but well shaped. It is sewn in the back to a nylon cloth type backing. The stitching all looks high quality and well done. The back of the case has a strap to attach it to your belt. It is not so much a clip, but a smal strap with a clasp that goes around your belt. It holds very nicely, and the man at the ThePouch told me they've never had a failure on this clasp.

The back of the case also as a pocket sewn into it. This pocket is ideal for credit cards or spare change. I have found another use for it. I really want to get a pen sized stylus, and this pocket is perfect for it!

The flap which closes over the device is full length and stiffened so it protects the screen. It is also well padded. It secures with a strip of velcro.

This case is not quite as padded as some others (ShockSuit), but it feels like it could withstand a reasonable fall. It also offers no protection while you are using your Visor (unlike others which let you use your visor in the case). Personally, I don't like the "use-in-case" style cases, so this is perfect for me. The only change I would make would be additional padding on the bottom of the pouch. What they have could be adequate--but I'm not about to test it by purposefully dropping my Visor .

This case fits my needs perfectly. I don't like the added bulk of cases that let you use your Visor in the case. Also, the elastic nature of the Neoprene will have some give if you purchase a SpringBoard that is slightly too thick or too tall for the Visor.

They don't have a size specifically for the Visor, but the man at ThePouch was very helpful in helping me find a pouch of the right size, which turned out to be the PalmIII pouch. I personally would like it if it were a bit tighter, but I am aso realizing that this might be a necessary trade-off for those larger springboards.

At $20, this case won't break the bank and is good protection for the money. They only take phone orders at 1-800-727-6824. You can see the pouch at www.thepouch.com. And I got mine within 2 days of ordering!

Hope that helps anybody in the market for new case.

Also note that the photos on their webpage now are not accurate for the PalmIII case. The front flap is full length, and the back pocket is bigger. You can see the clasp, however, which is quite a nice feature.

Question

I also heard about the Pouch but have a few questions.

1. Can the back pocket be used to store springboards (is it big enough)? How about batteries?
2. I'm worried about the clasp. Does the pouch move about a lot when attached to the belt (ie up & down, sideways)? I need to know how secure it is.
3. Did you order the optional strap with the pouch? If so, let us know how it is.

Thanks.

Corolli--

1) I don't have any springboards yet, but I tried to put the springboard cover in there. It fit very easily and didn't even create much of a bulge! I never noticed, but the pocket is secured at top with a small square of velcro--another nice feature. Didn't even notice it until I checked that out for you . The is perhaps the best tradeoff of space for addons in a non-bulky case

2) The clasp was the only thing holding me back when I looked at the case. I now like it better than my old one. I had a PalmV case from 3com. The two ways of putting it on were either taking off your belt to thread it through or using the clip. I was always afraid that if I sat down and my Visor got caught on the side of the chair that the clip would pop off and my Visor would fall to the ground. The clasp on the Pouch holds it securely--much more so than a clip. It stays pretty stationary but does move up and down slightly. It does not slide around on my belt much either. There is another nice feature that they did't advertise which happened with me. With any case, the Visor can become uncomfortable when you sit down. I found that when I sit down, the slight give of the strap allowed the Visor to move into a more comfortable position (up a bit or slanted out of the way). When I stand up, gravity brings it back to the proper place. Didn't even realize that this would be a bonus when I ordered the case!

3) Nope... didn't get the strap. I just like to holster my Visor .

Hope that helps!

Question

Can you fit the Visor and it's hard cover into the case for extra protection?

Cool

Yeah... there is some extra space in the case and it is also made of Neoprene which has some elasticity. I regularly use it with the hard cover on for extra protection, and think that it should even have enough space to accomodate thicker springboards (like the Innogear MP3 player).
