Weird XP behavior

Anyone encountered this type of problem. I have a laptop with XP Home edition and I am on a wireless network. If I am away from home - connected at my office or remote with no internet connection- several programs crash (Lotus Smartsuite, Corel Printoffice, even Wordpad!) The weird thing is that everything works fine at home. But it seems that if I leave the house, regardless of whether I have an internet connection, these program will close down immediatley (I get the little XP popup telling me that the program needs to close and do I want to send a report to Microsoft). Very weird! Anybody out there have any clues?
