Question

Does anyone know whether or not the Palm IR updates will allow Hotsyncing on the Visor as well? I have a laptop at work and a desktop at home, and would hate to have to but another cradle if I can sync via IR on the laptop. Thanks.

The IR update alone will not allow IR syncing (in fact, one of the files, AMX.PRC, will cause the visor to lock up). You'll need a 3rd party app like IRLink.

I knew that program existed, but was wondering if there was a cheaper solution. Not that I'm trying to be cheap, but the cost of the program is almost as much as a new cradle would be...

You can try searching some of the older posts here... there was a discussion about an IR sync app (freeware) from IBM for their WorkPad that some people successfully used on a Visor.

IBM's Workpad Sync. I've been using it since Dec 31st, 1999 with no problems. It is slower than serial and much slower than USB. Also, with this loaded, USB sync will not work. Not a problem for me, though, since I don't have USB.

You might ask "If it is slower, why even use it?"

Answer: because I only have a laptop. When you factor in unpacking the serial cradle, plugging it in, syncing, unplugging the cradle and packing it up again, IR syncing is faster. Plus, there is no cradle to carry around.

if you install the WordPad files, your Visor will stop syncing via USB.

I wish that Handspring would come out with a solution! Looks like Palm and IBM both support this free of charge for their devices. Handspring should as well.....

There's also one here: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/001108.html

More people have tried it out, and I didn't see any problems occuring. Some people even got 115kbps transfer rate with it!
