I'd like to have two cradles, one for syncing at home, and one for work...would there be any conflicts if I use a USB cradle at home and a serial cradle at work?

No problem at all. I've been doing this since I got my Visor. I have the E-mail set up at work and AvantGo setup on both computers. Just remember, if you have to restore a backup to do so from the most recent set.
