To the best of my knowledge, Handspring has not recognized the problem. I would call their 'tech' support number pronto, while its still under 30 day warrentee, and demand a replacement or return it and purchase another. My replacement has been working flawlessly since I recieved it (I started this post) and I've dropped, banged, X-rayed(6 times), probed, dissassembled, rewired, use NiMH batteries(charged in Visor), dissassembled again, all without a complaint or glitch. But I'm pretty carefull and take good care of it. Good luck.

I had my DDS problem back in March after I had the VDx for three months. At the time, I had no idea what was wrong. Anyway, HS told me to return and sent me a refurb. That unit had a battery draining problem and they very promptly sent me a brand new one. I've been happy with the new one since (no DRAM problem either). Also, I was not charged any shipping costs.

hooray -- after four days of leaving the batteries out overnight and trying a reset every morning, the visor came back from the dead. The most common scenario after popping the batteries back in was the normal hard reset 'welcome screen'. Tapping the stylus brought up the digitzer calibration screen. So far so good. But then any attempt to proceed were foiled with the machine getting stuck in a loop running through the three digitizer calibration target positions.
However, on ocasions soft resets from this point brought up the system preferences screen, usually with the top right hand menu displayed.
After ignoring this for a couple of days, I finally selected the digitzer option (duh), got the three target points and to my frank amazement the machine came back to life.
It has been running fine now for nearly three days and I hope it continues.
Of course my faith has been destroyed. There will always be the nagging suspicion that the damn thing will go autistic on me again.
