I bought my Stowaway at CompUSA in Akron, Ohio and it is way cool! Really strange things were happening when I first used it ... a row of "4" coming up when I pressed tab or backspace, and other problems, including it not waorking at all in some applications. I then went into Afterburner and restored all of the affected applications to their default speed and all of the problems went away!

Yeah, I posted something about that several days ago. It turns out that the application you're in must be running at normal speed in order to use the keyboard. I figure that's a small price to pay for the convenience.

Wow! Glad you posted (or reposted) the info!
I too had the row of 4's and was actually the first person to call Customer Support on the thing. (The lady told me at least). Anyway, I had disabled ALL hacks and it worked, so now you've just narrowed it down for me. I wonder if there is a way to set Afterburner to run the keyboard.prc at normal speed? Probably not, but if I get a revelation, I will let you know.

Question

Good Morning,
Back at it again for day two................
I returned all my selection to normal - and did a hard reboot - nothing happened.
I turned the Afterburner hack off - and did a hard rebbot - nothing happened. How do I do a soft reboot?

I am really surprised that Afterburner hasn't done something to correct this problem (bug????). Does anyone have any other suggestions?

K. Cannon & I discussed this problem here and if you do a search on stowaway and afterburner you'll find many more. My issue went away when I registered!

It is a known problem which is fixed ONLY in the registered version. This is part of the docs on afterburner.

Registering
I have also decided to make this thing shareware, again with Gavini's knowledge and clearance. This is only a mere $8, just to make up for the many long nights Ive put into this thing. The shareware version does not include GoType, IR, Serial port compatibility but has everything else. You still end up with more than what you got in Afterburner 2.x.

In other words, if you are using an unregistered version, you can expect your IR beaming to not be working at any speed other than normal (16MHz or 20MHz depending on your machine.) Likewise for the serial port with modems and other peripherals such as keyboards, etc. Hotsync continues to work as per normal.

In addition, there are now a number of features that are available only in the registered version. I will also continue to add more features to the registered version but bug fixes will be reflected on both registered and unregistered versions.

And I haven't had any more problems since I figured out the app you are in (e.g. Wordsmith) has to be set at a lower speed, as does the keyboard app.

Exclamation YAA (Yet Another Afterburner)

I just got a new release (3.0y) for Afterburner today. The update text by the developer says he's done some *major* rewriting of the way Afterburner affects the serial code; it should be much better at beaming and using hardware via the serial port (like the Stowaway keyboard.)

Haven't tried it yet, though.
