Question

I wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and get out the door every morning in about 10 minutes. I want AvantGo to be updated for my day (are my priorities in order, or what?), but I don't have the time to sync in the morning. I figured out how to make my computer turn on automatically every morning. Is there a way I can hotsync automatically? Can I leave my visor in the cradle all night? Does that cause battery drain, even if the computer is off? Help me out!

I believe Backup Buddy (which I highly recommend) comes with a utility called Autosync which sounds like it'll do what you want. There may be others available - try a search on Palmgear.

Thumbs up

Backup Buddy was the only thing I could find to do this. The autosync prc is smart enough to not turn on your visor, and attempt a sync unless the visor is in the cradle. Saves me a few minutes every mornin'!

I found one called auto sync and one called warm sync.

LarryN,

Wouldn't you have to have the Visor in the cradle on use a hot sync cable? Do you mean to say that it will attempt whether or not the Visor is in the cradle/hot sync cable, but will only succeed if it is connected?

For the record, IRLink also has an AutoSync option built in.

That's exactly right. I know because sometimes I forget to put my Visor in the cradle before I go to bed and when I wake up and look at it, it gives the message that the handheld could not connect to the desktop.

BTW, I have used AutoSync since it came out and it's extremely convenient (provided you remember to put it in the cradle at night )

What kind of battery drain do you get after a night's worth of sitting in the cradle? Or do you have a Prism or Edge?

I guess I wasn't that clear. It only turns on to sync, (or try to sync), after that, it shuts down after the normal 2 minutes of inactivity. The Visor doesn't draw any current if it's sitting in its cradle while off.
