Question

Hey all,

I love my Prism, and Memplug, and E&B Case, (Stowaway and Thinmodem+ to follow? LOL...). I also love my Pentopia 2+1 Pen. I use it most of the time at the office, when I keep my Prism in a Daytimers 5.5x8 case (need SOME paper every now and then!). However, I HATE the Handspring stock stylus. I am considering getting a replacement silo-fitting stylus, but would prefer to have one with a pen built in for those emergency situations. I have been looking at two in particular:

E&B's iPoint VSR w/pen
Pentopia's Chameleon Visor stylus/pen

I see that Visor Central gave the iPoint a good review. However, I have seen no reviews of the Chameleon Visor. I love the stylus tip on my Pentopia 2+1, and assume the stylus tip on the Chameleon Visor will be the same. However, I am reluctant to spend $20 on a stylus/pen combo until I get a little more info.

Does anyone have any opinions regarding the best silo-fitting stylus/pen combo's out there? I'd really appreciate some feedback.

The only thing I can tell you is that it feels small in my hands. I really love the spring action and how it feels on the screen. It's just small. On the other hand I have tried the Stylus Q. It has a built in pen and is also stylin (if you like that ball thing). Read this, it should help.

Clark,

Which of the two were you referring to, the Pentopia Chameleon or the E&B iPoint VSR?

Sorr 'bout that. I was refering to the Chameleon. The barrel is plastic. I prefer a slightly heavier feel.

My Chameleon T11FV has a brass barrel that has a really nice weight and feel to it. Did you possibly use one for a different device?

Granted, it's a bit too small to hand write much more than a quick note or sign a check, but it does come in handy, fits my VDx silo perfectly, and use standard refills available at any office supply store.

I have the Pentopia Chameleon for Visor, T11FV, UPC #77510.
It's clear for about the top 1/4, then metal until about the last 1/3, which is clear to the blue stylus. The metal does not seem to be metal-painted plastic, but does not feel as heavy as the original Prism stylus.

It fits in the silo, but I use it in the sleeve on my Rhodania case as an extra, for those times when I don't feel like digging the OEM stylus out of the case (kinda tough sometimes). The Chameleon might be harder to get out of the silo, though, as it has a different design at the top which does not give much to grip on when trying to remove it with this case on. I just tried it, and had to "pinch" the little black rounded nub at the top with the nails of my forefinger and thumb to extract it. YMMV.

CompUSA had it for $14.99 USD when I bought it in mid-April.

I love my Chameleon for Visor. Yes, it's too small to write a letter with, but for a person who has their Visor with them more than a pen, it's great!

I have no difficulty pulling mine out of the silo. There is enough sticking out for me to get it out normally.

It also has a reset pin.

Well, I don't know if I would say that I love my Chameleon but it is my favorite out of all the stylii that I've bought for the Prism. Much better than PDA Panache.
Maybe, if the Chameleon was "heavier", I could love it?

So Jeff, it sounds like the Chameleon, when in the silo, doesn't fit flush with the top of the Visor (a'la the stock stylus)? If not, then that pretty much settles it then. I won't be getting it. The iPoint has a nail head top which fits more flush than what it sounds like the Chameleon does. You should post a pic of the Chameleon sitting in the siol. I'd like to see just how much it sticks out...

Then there is the City Stylus which looks like a cros between the stock stylus and the Chameleon (form factor of of stock stlus, but with spring-loaded tip of chameleon. Plus it has a pen and reset pin as well). Problem is they are located in HK, and shipping would probably be as much as the cost of the pen!

No, it doesn't sit flush with the top of the Visor but it's really not a big deal. Only the tiny black eraser is above the top of the Visor. If you want to see how small the eraser is, you can look at the picture of the Chameleon Visor

You misunderstood me. As kalahari suggests, it sticks out the end of the Visor less that a nail-head would.

I meant it sticks out the side of the Visor, with a little ribby tab similar to the stock stylus.

Got it?

Unfortunately, I can't use my EyeModule to take a picture of the stylus in the silo

Thanks for the info folks. I have heard that the Chameleon is lighter than the stock stylus, if that's possible. Is that true? How does it affect your graffiti performance?

What are your opinions on the stylus tip quality. I have no doubt it is better than the stock stylus (how could it NOT be!)? I have a Pentopia 2+1 and love the quality of that stylus tip. Would I be correct in assuming that they are of the same quality (given that they are by the same company)?

Just curious...

ya know...these discussions are interesting and all, in the end, ya still have to just go to a compusa or some other computer store and have a look for yourself.

For something like a little pen/stylus, its ultimately a matter of personal taste and how it feels between your fingers -highly idiosyncratic- I don't think any written description or jpegs can suffice.
