Question

I found this hidden feature (DEVELOPER’S BACKDOOR) in the Prism’s Hotsync Program. Press and hold down any two of the Prism’s Up/Down button(s) and Highlight your name backwards while holding down the button. Does any one know what does it mean?

It has something to do with how the HotSync manager interacts with the handheld during syncs. Read some of these older threads.

Cool Around for a while

That has been in PalmOS since at least 2.0. I remember going into that mode on my Palm Pilot Professional. It just allows you to not time out while trying to hotsync. After a successful hotsync it goes back to the default.

good use for that!

This option might be especially helpful for those of us who have been masochistic enough to try modem Hotsync via Omnisky.

zelchenko,

Would you be so kind as to tell me how you hotsync your visor using the Minstrel (connection prefs, etc)? I have been trying for hours to figure it out and I can't seem to get it. I notice under the hotsync icon there is an option to pick minstrel as the connection preference so I do that but I just get an error message. I tried OS support but the tech guy says he can't tell me because if everyone did it, that flow of data would eat up their bandwidth and slow things down for those trying to surf the web. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Marty

P.S. Here is some more info on what I have my setup as:

Under Hotsync, I have "modem" (not local)selected. Under the drop down menu, for modem sync prefs, I have "network" selected. Under LAN sync prefs, I have "Local Hot Sync" selected although I've also tried to connect with "LANsync" selected. Under PrimaryPC setup, I have my laptop's IP address entered (which is on a university network, firewall is not a problem). And, obviously, I have OS selected as my service provider. When I attempt to hotsync, I can see the modem connecting to the OS network, but then like 30 secs later, it says the visor it could not connect to the PC I am trying to hotsync with. Again, any help you could provide would be most appreciated.

P.P.S. I also tried enabling the developer's back door mentioned here in this thread but when I do that and I try to hotsync, I get an immediate error saying the visor cannot connect to the modem or something like that.

That has got to be one of the worst excuses from a tech support person that I have heard in a long time. I know there's a way to do it, but I'm not exactly sure how to. If they didn't want people to be able to do it, then they shouldn't have included the support when they were writting the software for it.
