I just received a thincom modem in the mail yesterday and have configured it to dial in to a modem pool that provides PPP. I'd like to TELNET to other machines from this point. When trying to use On-Line I never get past the password prompt of a unix machine I'm logging into.

Does anyone have ideas about what configuration I may have overlooked, or another telnet application to use?

Thanks,
Gregg

In order to use Online for telnet, you need to log into a system that provides shell access. If all you have is a PPP connection, it won't work because it does not have a tcp stack to work with.

There is another product that does, but I've not tried it with the thincom package yet. It is called ptelnet http://netpage.em.com.br/mmand/ptelnet.htm it is also free.

I'm still playing around with the thincom package and have not yet decided if I am going to keep it. There is very little support for it from both the company that makes it and the included software package companies they include in the package. Last I heard, Markspace the makers of Online, didn't even have a copy of the product to provide any support with.

Attempts to request further information have also gone unanswered from card access.

They did respond quickly however when I first got the unit as it was defective and they sent out a replacement unit right away.

Another product that provides PPP connections is Mocha Pocket Telnet

I use it to dial into our RAS at work to access our mainframes and routers.
