Red face

Over the last week, I noticed a crack developing in my Deluxe case. It's at the top, where the plastic cover latches to the top. The ridge where the cover sits is cracked about .75 cm on the right side (if you have the unit flipped over). I guess I'll start using my leather case, but are cracks common in that area?

I, too, have a cracked case on my Graphite VDx. However, mine is on the right hand side about a half inch from the bottom. It appears to go all the way through the case, and has migrated to the top of the Visor.
When I noticed the crack a week or so ago, I decided to call Handspring. I was quickly connected to a CSR. I explained the problem, he put me on hold for a few minutes. When he came back he gave me an RMA number and told me Handspring would ship me a new Visor, and I could return the cracked one using the same packaging. They didn't ask for a credit card number or anything.
If I do, in fact, get the new Visor, then I would say this was an outstanding response to the problem. I will admit, though, that, given Handspring's rather checkered customer service past, I will believe in the new Visor when I see it.
I would encourage you to call Handspring and give them an opportunity to make it right.

Interesting. My case is ice/clear, so my crack in the hard cover's groove is a bit easier to see. I wonder if I had a grey one, if I'd see it at all. That little lip probably should be just a bit thicker there. One could probably stick their thumb nail in there and crack it. I'll consider calling Handspring, and see what they say.

Anyone else have any cracked case stories?

My Blue Vdx cracked at the groove in the first two weeks. One side. Handspring sent me a new one after I called. New one came 3 weeks later. The blue one had developed cracks on both sides and a piece chipped off by that time. The replacement visor was Graphite, not blue. I called CS. They said they would send a slim leather case for the mistake. I have not seen it. (And don't really care). But the Graphite Vdx chipped on the silo side of the springboard module slot within 2 weeks. I am extremely careful with cover removal, etc. with my Visor after the 1st set of cracks. So a 3rd Visor has arrived. I like the Graphite better, and so does my wife. After 1 week, no problems. The graphite plastic covers, at least the 2 I have had, are looser than the Ice cover, so mayber there is less stress on the slot. Both graphites don't squeak at all. My blue one did. No palm insignia on the graphite battery covers. Interestingly, the 2nd graphite visor took only 4 working days to arrive and has an earlier serial number than the first replacement. It also had some adhesive on the back, making me think it was a return model.
And the backup module makes an exact copy into the replacement. Excellent.

Hope everyone's visor won't crack.

Jon

When I remove the lid, I usually slightly bend it so that it doesn't catch on the case. However, after 6 weeks I too have a small hairline crack.

Thanks for the pointer to this thread! ChrisB's photograph of the crack makes it look like he's holding *my* Visor. Freaky. Well, this issue looks to be a problem with the hard case covers. I suppose I'll just use my leather cover. Unfortunate 1.0 product problems.
