This feature first appeared in the Address Book that comes with Palm OS 3.5. Apparently Handspring took that version of the Address Book as their starting point when they came up with the modified version that supports the automatic dialing.
Possible ways to retain this feature, in order of expected complexity, easiest to hardest.
- Does the Visor Phone have File Mover, and can File Mover see and copy this Address Book off of the Visor Phone. I doubt it, but this would be the easiest if it does.
- Can some utility like Filez or BeamBox see this Address book and then copy it out. This may require the aid of another Palm OS device. Taking a quick look, Filez looks like it could beam such a program.
- Download and install the development environment for developing Palm applications with the examples. Inside the examples is the source for the Address Book. Build it and install it. This is not a simple task unless you already have a CodeWarrior for PalmOS development environment set up. This is because the examples are meant to be compiled under CodeWarrior. If one uses CodeWarrior Lite, it will put in a splash screen that will be seen every time the application is launched. To use the GNU tools one has to first convert all the resources from code warrior to PilRC format. Not a simple task and any such details need to be moved to the developers corner area.
