Doing a hard-reset, as gbgood prescribed above, should probably be sufficient. However, if you want to be real sure you can try what I did with my wife's, company issued, Palm Vx before we returned it.- First I did the hard reset.
- I then installed Pocket Chess v1.1. I did this by beaming the application from my Prism to the Vx.
- I then did a "
. 2", which enables debug mode. (That is tap tap 2.) I did this for it opens the serial port, thus increasing the power drain. - I then turned the backlight on, also to increase the power drain. This of course would not apply to a Prism, but you could turn the brightness all the way up.
- I then did a "
. 3" which turns auto-off off. If you do this one right the Palm device will respond "[No Auto-Off]". The " . 2" given above the device gives no indication if you did it right or not. - Then I then ran Pocket Chess playing itself, at the highest level. This keeps the processor consciously busy, thus maximizing the power drain.
After about three hours of this the battery was completely drained.
Now you might not be able to do all of this. Pocket Chess 1.1 is no longer available, but 2.0 probably would do. But basically I needed a program that could keep the processor continuously busy. However this might not be needed on the prism. My experience has been that the Prism can take about 4 hours of continuous use, because the display is such a major battery drain. Thus probably using the two " . number" commands given above should be sufficient.
