Memory & NiMH batteries
Thank you nice people for the advice on battery settings. NOW, the rest of the story !!! The reason I wanted to use rechargable NiMH batteries is that I ordered a MemPlug compact flash adapter and a 32M CF card. With these in place, my batteries go down faster than the Titanic. Any thoughts? Maybe I got the wrong brand of CF adapter?

CF cards draw a higher current than SM cards even when in the sleeping state. Some brands of cards draw more than others. I seem to recall someone posted a table that showed the current draw of various types of cards. Try searching around the boards.

The battery drain problem comes with a minority of CF cards which do not "shut down" when inactive.
I had this problem with a cheap noname 32MB card, even when I did not access the card at all (an operation that always uses much energy, even with good cards). Since I switched to Sandisk CFs, the situation is normal.
Another reason of battery drain could be a software problem. But try a different card CF first.

I am[U] using SanDisk. Posted that it was 32M, but,
am using 16M instead. Battery drain very excessive
whether or not it is active. Just inserting the adapter/CF
and zzzooooooommm, there goes the batteries.
How, now, brown cow?

Some of the modules themselves caused this problem. Take it back
and get a replacement.
