I am planning to Hotsync to two machines. Is there a way to to the following:

#1: At home hotsync to the palm desktop software and at work hotsync to Lotus Notes using EasySync.

From what I have read EasySync will put files on the handheld (Visor) that will disable the Visor from syncing to the Palm Desktop. Therefore I will not be able to hotsync at home.

#2: On the Hotsync at work is there a way to limit what catagories are sync'd

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. I synched at home to Palm Desktop once with no problem (Windows 98, USB). Then I brought my Visor to work, and used EasySynch v2.0 to synch to Lotus Notes (Windows 95, serial).

Now, when I synch at home, no Schedule or To Do information is transferred to the Palm Desktop anymore. Phone numbers, memos, etc all come across fine. But Schedule and To Do don't make the synch transfer.

This TOTALLY sucks, and I'm really going to be pissed with the EasySynch people if I can't get whatever they did to my Visor fixed without a hard reset.

Any help would be much appreciated...

Thanks,
John

My IT contact at work, who installed the EasySync, told me yesterday that EasySync will only work on one machine and disables the built in apps data transfer.

I am looking into Intellisync. I understand that it has more flexiblity. Any one have experience with Intellisync?

Well, after syncing with EasySync at work to Notes, I can still sync with my machine at home to the Palm Desktop. But as I mentioned, it's not sending over the 'Schedule' and 'To Do' information anymore. Everything else is getting sent fine. So, it didn't totally disable any internal app in the Visor, it just fudged it up (I guess).

I found this note on the Lotus web site under the EasySync documentation area:

"PalmIIIx, Palm V, Palm Vx, Palm VII and IBM Workpad 3C - Customers who are currently using any of these newer Palm Computing Platform devices must upgrade to EasySync for Notes 3.0a - EasySync 2.1 and earlier versions do not function correctly with the newest Palm Computing Platform devices and Hotsync 3.01. Users will encounter some synchronization errors. Users of these new devices must use a copy of EasySync 3.0a."

So, this would seem to imply that the Visor won't function correctly with EasySync 2.0, which is what I am using at work.

Not to do a total turnaround on this topic, but what do you think of this....I am toying with just dropping the money on EasySync 3.0, and using that at work to sync with Notes 4.5, and then at home to Sync with Lotus Organizer. Have any experience with that type of setup? Lotus Organizer is much more powerful than the Palm Desktop, so I'm kind of thinking of blowing off the Palm Desktop all together, and using the Lotus products that I already have.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
John

Interesting....

I decided to try to sync with Lotus Organizer 4.1 to see if it imported my Calendar and To Do information.

I downloaded EasySync for Lotus Organizer 4.1 from the Lotus web site, installed it, and kicked off a HotSync.

No dice...It transferred all information EXCEPT the Calendar and To Do items. Just like the Palm Desktop scenario.

So, that means when I sync with Palm Desktop and Lotus Organizer at home, I am no longer able to import these categories of info. What the heck is going on?

But at work, using Lotus Notes Calendar and EasySync 2.0, I can....

Any info from your IT contact who knows about EasySync regarding how to fix the Visor so this info will transfer again? You mention something about EasySynch disabling some internal app. Any way to enable it again???

Any help would be much appreciated...

Thanks,
John

I believe that EasySync places files on the Visor (or any handheld) that redirects the data transfer. There is a thread on this discussion board that discusses the file names and how to remove them. I printed it but cannot put my hands on it at the moment.

My original problem was that no data from any internal app would transfer. Your partial data transfer is a bit different. BTW, do you still have the ability to download new apps from the desktop to the Visor? I never lost that function.

I will try to dig up the thread I mentioned. Hope that helps.

David,

If you could locate the thread, that would be great, as I want to clear this problem up as soon as possible.

Also, like you, I never lost the ability to download new apps from the Desktop to the Visor. The only thing that got messed up was the 'Schedule' and 'To Do' info.

Thanks for your help, and I'll keep an eye here for the info....

John

Beautiful! Thanks everyone. I'm going to go get BeamBox now, and get this EasySync junk off of my Visor.

Then, I'm going to try Intellisync, as I have heard positive things about that package from several sources. My ultimate goal is to be able to sync with 'Notes 4.5 Calendar' at work, and 'Lotus Organizer 4.1' at home. We'll see what happens...

As a side note...I contacted Handspring Tech Support about this, and they said they are aware of the problem with EasySync, and are currently working on a solution.

Thanks,
John ([email protected])

Greetings all...Well, using BeamBox to get the Lotus EasySync databases off my Visor (as per the link above) worked perfectly! I'm back in business...I can now sync with Lotus Organizer 4.1 with no problems.

Well, clearly this isolates EasySync (and the garbage it leaves on the Visor) as the problem. Also, I spoke at length with the folks at Puma Software today, makers of Intellisync. After describing my problem, before even getting the words "Lotus EasySync" out of my mouth, she groaned and beat me to it. She said, "Yes...EasySync does have its short-comings". :-)

She said that I should experience no such problems when using Intellisync to sync on two machines. Specifically, with Lotus Notes Calendar (on a Windows 95 machine, serial cradle), and Lotus Organizer 4.1 (on a Windows 98 machine, USB cradle).

I'll give it a shot...Just ordered Intellisync from buy.com (best price I was able to find), and I'll try it out when it gets here. I'll post the results....

John
