XP: Today it syncs, Tomorrow it Doesn't

OK, I know that there have been many posts regarding XP and possible solutions. I have tried all of the solutions posted here, but my problem persists. I upgraded from Win98 to WinXP, installed my Deluxe via USB, and I installed Palm Desktop version 4.01. The problem is that my Visor Deluxe syncs sometimes, and sometimes not. For example, today I tried to sync my Deluxe. I pressed the hotsync button and nothing happens on the screen while my Deluxe says "connecting with desktop", and eventually times out. Last night, it hotsynced perfectly. So I am getting inconsistent synching responses and it is driving me insane, especialliy at 6am before work.

I have a feeling that the problem is just a setting or something that's leadinhg to the inconsistency. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

I haven't yet used XP myself, but I've heard a lot about having to disable the USB port power saving feature, which I think can be done through the Device Manager.
