Post Cell phone hookup and keyboard?

Hello,

I was wondering if there was any way to hook one of the cell phone modem cables, I have seen for the Visor, while also having a keyboard attached.

Thanks,
Peter

Unfortunately, they both require use of the serial port and therefore cannot be used together. The way a keyboard interfaces to the port precludes it from being used for serial communications that the cell phone cable requires.

Now, the simple solution to this dilemma would be a Springboard module that contains nothing more than a standard serial port, but nobody's developed one yet (the Efig Diagnostic module has additional features and is too expensive).

Thanks.

Too bad. I wouldn't get one without the other.

However, this thread says that you can use a VisorPhone and a StowAway keyboard at the same time.

Understandable since the VisorPhone is a module and doesn't share the serial connection with the keyboard. The same holds true of the Springboard wireless modems (OmniSky, YadaYada, etc). It's only when you want a cable connection to a supported stand-alone cell phone that makes keyboard use impossible.

What about the module that Xircom makes now. If I remember correctly it allows for a cell phone (GSM ONLY?) to be connected to the module via their special cable. I'll see if I can find a few links for ya.

Becasue 1) GSM is digital, no digital to analog changing.
2) GSM is better?
