You didn't specify what model you have...
If it has replaceable batteries, take them out and leave them out overnight. That should drain any residual power in the unit. Then install new batteries and you should get the equivalent of a hard reset.
If it has built-in rechargeables, do a soft reset while its in the cradle. That is supposed to reset the charging circuit and has solved battery issues for many other users.
If after doing one of the above you're still having the same problem, it's most likely a hardware problem.
