I have two springboards (voice recorder & mp3 player) and am considering a two more SB's (more memory & visorphone). The only problem is that I can only use one SB at a time.

Wish someone would make an ultimate SB. Mine would do all of these:
(1) A data-enabled cellphone
(2) 64 MB of flash memory
(3) mp3 player
(4) voice recorder
(5) 1 megapixel digital camera

I think that's a reasonable wish. What do you think? What's your (reasonable) dream SB?

I'd be pretty happy if my VisorPhone had a backup 56K wireline modem with an RJ-11 jack (no dongle) in the same form factor.

Ultimate Springboard?

When in place, it (magically) converts my Plat's screen to a 480x640 x256bit color display.
It adds 248meg of flash memory, for 256 total.
It's got an audio chip on it that will play MPGs, WAVs, MIDI, and CD audio files. Includes Dolby 5.1 Optical audio output port, as well as standard L/R inputs and outputs.
It includes technology that allows sounds to travel from my chest via vibrations to my ribs and related bones to my ears bones. No headphones, and no one else can hear the sounds. It works when the Visor is in my chest pocket.
It's got bluetooth technology in it, and comes with a bluetooth USB transceiver for my PC. No more cradle required. The Visor synchs whenever I get within range of the PC. Doesn't even have to come out of my pocket. Other Visors with the same module will automatically share business cards if they are within a 10ft radius of each other. The Bluetooth technology can also serve as a secure/authorizing entry trigger. Only MY visor's bluetooth signal can open my doors, start my car, etc. But it will unlock my doors automatically as I approach them. The car will no longer need a key. It will start with a push button once my Visor is within range.
It also has a HDTV/NTSC/DirecTV TV tuner, and will display any video from those sources on the Visor.

That's not asking too much, is it?

Internet Radio.

My Ultimate SB would a wireless modem and a speaker and a Headphone jack. I love internet radio so much (KEXP Seattle ROCKS). I would even settle for just a speaker and the necessary software, I can hook up via my Startac anyway.

DBrown, the next question is how much would you be willing to pay for all of that??? (And no, just because it's your "dream" SB doesn't mean you can have it for free. )

How about a PocketPC emulator?

Or a TV receiver?

Or an airbag so i don't have a heart attack every time I drop my Visor? (it happens a lot, unfortuantely)

Or a USB host adapter, so you could hook up keyboards, joysticks, CDRs, webcams, scanners...

All I want is a TRUE CF Module, so I can use CF modems, IBM microdrives ect. oh yea, a built in battery would be nice too.

I'd like a multimedia module, it would have 64mb-128mb with its own speaker & headphone jack. It would be able to play both movies & MP3s. If they could fit it I'd also like to see a TV Tuner, or a video jack which would allow you to add an external one (And perhaps other sources like DVD).

It should also upgrade the screen to 320x320 while its at it

Although I don't currently own any SB's, my dream module would combine all the things that I have nearly bought (or am anxiously awaiting...):

* MP3 player w/ FM Radio tuner
* 802.11b + Bluetooth + IR remote control (a la Omni Remote)
* CF for memory (w/ direct access to files on the CF cards)

I would probably pay about $250 for this module... Sure this is a slightly dream price, but I can't imagine buying a module that costs more than the Visor does/did.

I agree that watching movies/TV on the Visor is a little bit of a stretch. There may be special cases where this makes sense, but it seems more like a novelty for most users.

A camera would be great too, but without a Prism, it would be hard to know if you were taking good color pictures. Also, it would have to be able to fully replace a standalone camera.

How about combining the Thinmodem plus with an adapter to read compact flash and smart media? I would imagine that this would be a realistic module (unlike some suggested ).

If I had a module like that, it would never leave my Platinum .

I'd like the see the AirPrime SB1000 released. It's the CDMA equivalent of the VisorPhone. Since I'm already signed up with SprintPCS, and Sprint has much lower airtime rates than GSM providers AFAIK, having a single inexpensive provider for voice and data access would be a dream come true, especially when Qualcomm upgrades the network to 144k this year. But it looks like we'll have to wait a few more months for the AirPrime module.

My Ultimate Module

I think the problem with most SB's is that the designers don't seem to think we'd pay an extra $20 ro $30 for a great enhancing feature. I like the eyemodule, it works, but the memory requirements and lack of a zoom or flash make it hard to use. seeing how little it cost to make a CF interface for the Visor, how much could it have cost to engineer in a CF or SM slot in the camera? And how about a flash for low light? Button batteries could be used to power the mechanism.

My ultimate module would have the following:

* A 32MB Flash Memory enhancement. (That should be enough, and 64 or more would just be greedy!)

* A digital camera with flash, external storage, and a zoom of some sort (Anyone remember those Kodak 110 cameras with the telephoto switch? Same thing)

* No MP3 Player. I can get a decent one that won't drain the batteries on my Visor for cheap.

* A LOUDER SPEAKER SO I CAN HEAR THE ALARMS IN A CROWDED PLACE!!

* A blinky light for a visual reminder.

* a 56k FAX modem with a pop-up RJ11 jack.

* A phone with a removeable submodule that would allow you to change phone types depending on who your carrier is. (A sprint module, a Verizon module, a ATT module, etc)

* A GPS Module that integrates into the phone.

I wouldn't hesitate to pay $500 for this uber module. Maybe $999 Bundled with a Visor Platinum, but I would want an activation credit with the cell carrier.

What does everyone else think?

I would be happy with a Springboard Wireline NIC with built in network diagnostics. While I'm at it add the ablity to plug in adapter to make it a 802.11b wireless NIC, and I'd be good to go.

Hmmm. Now that I think about it, a modular Network communications Springboard module. A basic Network module that you just plug in different adapters to so that you can connect to different kinds of networks (LAN, 802.11b, CDPD, etc) Include some flash RAM to store diagnostics and the necessary apps, and that would be a killer module! I'd be willing to pay $200 - $300 for that. Feasiblity...... that's another question.
