I don't know about the Visor, But I have a radio (Ham radio) in my car that has a similar display as the visor (same technology) and if I leave the display in the car when it is cold, it will be very light until it warms up. In the summer, it will be very dark until it cools down. I always thought that much of a change couldn't help but do damage. I haven't, however, seen any permanent damage. I pull the face off in the winter and the summer, and carry it with me for the most part.
The guy that I talked to at Best Buy seemed to think that condensation was a bigger issue, while I don't know exactly how accurate that is, I do know that I have had condensation in my radio as well and again, I haven't had any problems. I have had the radio in the car for almost 3 years at this point.
