Question

Anyone have a D-Link DWL-1000AP 802.11b Access Point? Just wondering if it is/will be compatible with the Xircom Wireless Springboard module that is coming out.

I have heard that various 802.11b components are not exactly compatible all the time.

Lightbulb I should work . . .

I have the same Access Point at home for my laptop. As long as Xircom follows ther 802.11b standard it should work with any Access Point.

An 802.11b springboard module is a step in the right direction. Problem is, it's a tall ladder, full of steps.

The next step: Include an 802.11b PCI card for your desktop PC, all at the $299 price. Being able to access a wireless network sucks if you haven't already got a wireless access node to access.

The next step: Lower the price. It's a Visor, for God's sake! We (most of us) paid less than $300 for the Visor itself! No module should cost more than the device it installs in.

Next step: Add a wired ethernet plug to the thing. If it can do ethernet already, why not satisfy the already demonstrated HUGE demand for those who want to PLUG IN? Then my Visor could access any network, not just the expensive wireless ones.

Next step: Lower the price again. Isn't that a law?

Just my opinion. ;-)

Lower the price?! Nah! This thing is priced perfect! As long as we all win the lotto...Maybe we can knock off rich relatives?

The Module Is Moot!

The module is obviously priced to appeal to users that will use the wireless connectivity to access database driven applications in facitities like hospitals. At $300 plus an access point Xircom can kiss goodbye the home/small business and gadget geek crowd.

I have the D-Link DWL-1000AP and use it with an Intel card in my notebook, works like a champ for that combo!
