Question

I'm trying to get information on the japanese versions of the visors (& other palms). I've seen pictures, but all of the information seems to be in Japanese (which I don't speak). The Hanspring rep's gave me a number to call - in Japan! Does anyone know whether there is a different version of Graffiti for japanese characters, or whether the devices use "Romaji" (sorry for spelling - I'm told this is the name for using "roman" characters to approximate japanese sounds). Anyone ever used a Japanese version who might be able to share any other pertinant information about the differences between american & japanese versions?

Thanks!

Daniel

The Graffiti is the same, Yes, it uses Romaji.

I think the biggest difference is the Graffiti area. It has silk buttons to convert Romaji to Kanji/Kana, and swich English & Japanese mode.

Also you can use Japanese on English Visor/Palm using J-OS. Search this board for J-OS.

Sorry I don't have time to write a long reply right now but let me know if you have any other questions!

With J-OS, You can choose whether to display menus in Japanese or not. If you want to do so, you have to install "localizers". I didn't install localizers since English menus seem more intuitive to me so mine is still in English,

Taki - (or anyone who can help)

I want a visor that runs mainly in English but which will allow me to enter text (appointments, memos, addresses etc...) in Japanese. I've been reading some old posts about J-OS IV and this sounds like it would work perfectly, but as I'm going to be buying a new device soon I wonder if it wouldn't be better to simply buy a Japanese device. So, my question is, if I buy a Japanese Prism can I select the 'main language' (message screens, menus etc...) to English or would I be limited to Japanese for this? My Japanese improves all the time, but it's not THAT good!

Natalie,

As far as I know,Japanese Palm OS'menu, error messages and etc. are in Japanese and it cannot be "switched" to English. I think J-OS is probably more convenient for you. I use mostly English on my Visor but I need to read(e-mails & e-books) & write some Japanese(entering people's names & addresses).

Also probably this is not enough for you but it you want to just display Japanese on your English Visor, there is a freeware called Yomeru.

Good luck!
