Well, I finally got my new GVD, and after much trouble, finally got the USB to hotsync.

It then proceeded to do an infinite loop of soft resets, where I would get a blinking Palm computing screen.

battery removal and a few hundred resets, then insert batteries and try again, (repeat).

I had backup buddy running on my IBM Workpad (Palm III), so I thought perhaps it was restoring something that should not be installed, so I moved the "backup" directory from my Palm directory, and now it actually works.

However, a few things have been installed that I don't know about - for example, I now have datebook, AND datebook plus. In the about section of each, one says Palm computing (db), ver 3.0H, and the other (db+) says Handspring ver 3.0H

Upgrade 3.1.1 was also installed, don't know if I should remove that or not either.

I like it, especially the crisp buttons - much better than the squishy ones on my Workpad.

One little hitch - sometimes when i push the "up" button, the unit shuts off, and sometimes it actually performs it's duty. Should I be without for another couple of weeks to get a refurbished GVD (shouldn't I get a NEW one, since I never really had a new working model to start with), or just live with the little glitch.

To my knowledge, all Visors have Datebk and Datebk+...It's just Handspring's enhancement to Palm's original Datebk. I don't know why they're two separate apps instead of one...maybe it's part of the licensing agreement?

Wink

Datebook+ is a scaled down version of Pimlico's Datebk3. This program does not replace Palm's datebook. Read this from PalmPower's review of Datebk3...

"keep in mind that it's not a direct replacement for the Date Book application. Instead, Datebk3 relies on Date Book's database to store your appointments, adding its own features by sitting on top of Date Book. Any special features introduced by Datebk3 are held in a separate database tied to the original. This way, your information is synchronized with your Windows PC or Macintosh without requiring additional conduits or desktop software."

This should explain the double icons in your app menu.
