Thumbs up Mini R/C Cars

Hey,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has seen the 2.5 inch full function remote control cars. I bought one today...really really cool.

The ZipZaps from Radio Shack? I was tempted... is the controller any good, or does it need ergonomic work? I have 8 cats in my house... imagine the possibilities!

Cool

I prefer the MicroSizers (*****arG?) to the ZipZaps. They're smaller & faster right out of the box (in fact the stock MicroSizer is faster than a ZipZap with the top parts in the F&F kit). They also have a wider range of motors as well (all the way up to 38,000 RPM), and the controller on the MicroSizer is better, IMO (the large rocker switches are better than the buttons on the ZipZap controller).

They don't run well on carpet, so I can't chase my cats too far , but they are a blast for lunchtime races at work.

I've been having fun with mine. I posted some information and a few pictures at my blog. As of today it is the second post, under the story....

This is my favorite pic. That's my Clie T615 under the car.

Lightbulb You can order them on ebay...

Hey,

They can be had on ebay. Just one thing I find the range to be only about 12 feet.

The range can be improved with a better antenna. Though I haven't done it to my ZipZaps yet, I can get about 20 feet away from my Microsizers before I start to lose contact.

Street prices locally are $19.99 for the ZipZaps and $29.99 for the MicroSizers, and that's when you can find them. The extra $10 for the Microsizers is worth it, IMO.

Oh, and just for scale, the Microsizers are about 2/3's the size of the ZipZaps.

Toolkit, you're lucky. In the US we're limited to two frequencies (well, legally anyway ) Everywhere else you can get up to six different frequencies.

Lightbulb Street prices mean street vendors...

Hey,

I bought mine on the street. A street vendor had a box of them.

Lightbulb IR

Looks cool. Got to buy a birthday present for a kid down the street. This is it.

How about a version I can control from the IR port my PDA? I can just see myself sitting in one of those 8 hour corporate meetings going nowhere and popping this out on the conference table. Top it off with me controlling it with my Treo. That'd step on some toes. Hee, Hee, Hee ...

IR versions? Check out www.the-gadgeteer.com! They reviewed a few different micro RC cars, including a IR version!

These are for kids? <G> I got one for myself. It's great fun racing it around my apartment with my dogs.

Shaq is doing ads for these little things. RadioShack has the weirdest choice in spokepeople.
